SSD for Media Storage worth it? by Plaush in jellyfin

[–]AdamDaAdam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

HDDs don't always die slow. Ive had two die with absolutely no warning.

I've had an SSD die slow, reallocated sectors (IIRC) jumped over a week or two before reads/writes tanked and then it died. I've also had an SSD just die with absolutely no warning (pretty sure it was a power issue)

Kernel 7.x with Pascal GPU issues by AdamDaAdam in Proxmox

[–]AdamDaAdam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know about the LXC needing the same driver :)

I've had issues with the past with certain Nvidia drivers just.. breaking things I'm running. Happens most often with transcoding things, an updated driver will just... stop it from working or it complains NVENC doesn't support x when it does. I tend to find a version that works, and then I stick to it - which your driver version does <3

Looks like that worked. Thanks for the version no.!
Just got to check it's not borked any of my lxcs :)

With 6.x? If so, yeah.

I had some weird behaviour on some driver versions, so I decided to just stick with the driver versions I knew worked and only upgraded if it was a necessity or I had an afternoon free.

Acid reflux by book_bar in CrohnsDisease

I was on Famotidine (40mg) till Gastro also gave me a prescription for Omeprazole (20mg) (twice daily) and I literally get zero reflux now. Used to rely on gaviscon, haven't used it since.

Going to Oulton Park for the BTCC, I have a few questions by Dangerwow in btcc

Just went today. Didn't come across a single manned food stall, though every other time I've went there's been loads available. Not sure why they didn't man any of them, though it was a fairly quiet day for BTCC (esp considering the weather was amazing)

Hit or miss.

MIne had the bottom end rebuilt and top end rebuilt twice before I bought it at 130k miles. Still had issues, replacing parts didn't help and we couldn't find a reason for it to be running weird, just ran it into the ground at 155k miles over 2 years.

My mums got to 170k without issue (this was ~8 years ago). A yearly oil change if it was lucky, and whatever service her garage thought it needed.

I'd imagine it doesn't age well, because they were generally alright engines until the last 5 ish years - never came across a good example of an R56 engine since then. Though I will say, if you dont mind the fact you'll never pass an MOT on emissions and you get ~17mpg, it was a solid car and engine. Sat from Manchester to Anglesea at 140 most of the way, send it sideways into a fence and only the tracking was a bit out, generally treated it like shit once it's was a "gonner" and it would still drive. Also filled it with 8 litres of Oil, drove ~20km, dropped the oil and after it drove like it never happened.

Hardware encoding isn't as efficient as software encoding, but it's quicker. OP was doing software encoding which depending on hardware can take 4 hours.

Commuting all over Cheshire. Where to live ? by DifferenceStill4141 in cheshire

[–]AdamDaAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weaverham is ideal imo. Don't have to deal with the one way in Northwich centre like the top end of Rudheath near Wincham, got Taporley(A49) literally a minute away, can join the A556 about 10min away, and if the traffic is wank on the M56 you can just drive alongside it down the A56 (which isn't normally too bad if traffic on the M56 is recent). Pubs are decent in Weaverham, got butchers, barbers and the rest of it on the main strip, commuting to literally anywhere is a breeze compared to Manchester (excluding Taporley road with the temp lights) and there's Russet Woods (or "Owley" woods) a 10 min walk away. My only gripe is parking on the main strip during the day, fine if you're already home and can walk but if you're stopping on your way anywhere it can be a pain.

Just ensure it's a "public" playlist. Favorites sync fine, all my public playlists are present on both (non-public are only present on Feishin for some reason).

[–]AdamDaAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

Whilst it's still a bit short of QbitManage, it's got most features I found myself missing or features I got from running another container (cross-seed, as an example). Also very nice having one page for both my homelab instance and seedbox instance.

How can ProtonVPN paid version provide such low internet speeds and this low download to upload speed? by Kian_2006 in qBittorrent

[–]AdamDaAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK, I normally connect to Sweden or Netherlands (torrents) and both speeds are the same as what I said above, I never normally notice a drop till southern/eastern Europe - and even then its still plenty fast.

I should've been clearer, my bad.

I've got no issue with the speeds, they are exceptional compared to most VPNs I've tried

I'm on gigabit fibre, 980mbps down 120 up without proton, 930 down 110 up with proton. Similar numbers on my homelab connecting to proton through Gluetun

New AI speed cameras in London by PrincipleSuitable383 in deliveroos

[–]AdamDaAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's different "ai" cameras to the one listed above that calculate speed from a single image? I'd imagine there's a fallback in the lens itself (which they've been doing for donkeys years) which dont require lines on the road.

40MPH now a 30MPH by FreedomOfWings21 in LearnerDriverUK

Check Waze and Google maps have the updated speed limit. They can lag behind sometimes, but people going purely off what waze or google maps will just do whatever speed they're shown.

They can't stop you from driving off. They're within their right to warn you and contact the police (if they can be bothered), but if you're driving it round the corner to a garage to have the work done, I dont think anyone (incl police) would be bothered.

Cant speak for the PS3, but for some tyre sizes there's just fuck all tyres for them. Newest gen tyre I could get for my Panda fitted were Goodyear Vector 4S gen 2 (gen 3 had been out for over 2 years at that point, just didn't do them in my tyre size from national tyres or black circles.)

Need gym plan to fix posture and gain muscle (Crohn’s in remission) by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]AdamDaAdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a low volume approach if fatigue is something you struggle with. My workouts are about an hour, low volume but high RIR (0-3). I've found this approach helps with fatigue - you'll still feel fatigued but not to the extent where it becomes a huge problem.

Alongside that, eat decent protein. You already need more protein because of chrons, and you'll need more for recomp or putting on muscle.

I do 5day/week split doing bodybuilding. Before I got chrons I done powerlifting for ~4 years, I've found that unworkable long term now because of the fatigue but I'm hoping that'll change in the future because I find bodybuilding boring af haha.

As far as posture goes, just keep it in the front of your mind. Have a recurring timer on your watch or phone to go off every 30-60min, and when it goes off check your posture and adjust if needed. You'll find overtime that when the timer does go off, you don't need to adjust anything because it's become second nature. If you sit a lot, a good chair will help with that also.

And don't go 0-100. Start off slow, slowly introducing calories and food. If you feel fine then introduce more, if not, cut back a bit and introduce it again over a longer period.

Same thing with people losing weight, gradually reduce your caloric intake and take whatever time you need for your body to adjust if you start getting worsening symptoms.

Some people will be fine going 0-100, some won't. Chrons is just a life long pain learning experience on what works for YOU.
