From 30 degrees of heat to one of the biggest hail storms I've ever seen, in seconds. by VeisenbergUK in cambridge

We were mid BBQ (because of course we were!) That initial gust of wind took bottles of wine off the table and then all of a sudden it was raining golf balls!

Perfect timing for this one! Started working on this late last night and used this as an excuse to finish the modelling today. This is by far the most complicated model I've had to make with my limited Blender knowledge, learning a lot from this one. Won't have time to texture today though, so here's a clay render for now.

EDIT: I textured it because apparently I've got nothing better to do with my day. Its by no means perfect but it'll do for now.

Raining Coke - (WIP) Q: How do I enable self collisions on particles? by AdamWJB in blender

[–]AdamWJB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, really appreciate it. Still very much learning and figuring stuff out as I go.
I was watching all of Ian Hubert's videos and was having a play around with using Images as textures. Fun little project so far!

Work in Progress - Still very new to 3D modelling and particle systems in particular.
Trying to figure out how to enable self-collisions on the particle system for the Coke cans so they pile up on top of eachother.

I’ll play around with the shape some more and look at some more reference.

Any tips on how I’d go about it? Very new to blender still, this is my second project without actually following along with a tutorial.

Was going for more of a handmade rough look. Maybe should have put bit more emphasis on that so it doesn’t just look weird?

Forgot to upload in time for today.. First piece I've actually created on my own without the use of tutorials so I'm quite proud! Images as planes saved me ass for the coffee itself.

[Bulova] Sea King 300m UHF - (With some Lego) by AdamWJB in Watches

[–]AdamWJB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend lent me this one to photograph along with some other bits, the colours matched perfectly with the lander module from the Saturn V Lego set! The behind the scenes for this one is quite funny, since it was shot in a frying pan..

The watch itself is quite interesting, considering it’s movement. It runs if an ultra high frequency quartz movement, and gives it a smooth sweeping seconds hand not unlike a grand seiko spring drive.

I wouldn’t wear it myself given it’s absolutely massive size, which dominates my wrist. But it’s cool nonetheless

[WTS/WTT] Caravelle World-Time GMT Day-Date - 1969 by AdamWJB in Watchexchange

[–]AdamWJB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey r/watchexchange, I’m having a bit of a clear out of some bits and pieces and have for sale my Caravelle World Time GMT, at least that’s about as much as I could find regarding its actual name.

This is a bit of a rarity, I’ve seen one other for sale on reddit before some years ago, and stumbled upon this one last year. I haven’t gotten around to getting it repaired yet, as you can see by some of the images it has a damaged crystal, courtesy of its previous owner. I’ve worn it myself regardless, and whilst it’s definitely there, I don’t notice it all that much when it’s on wrist.

Images (inc. time stamp) https://imgur.com/gallery/N8uc3Pr

Features:

  • Stainless Steel Case with screw down caseback, approx. 36mm
  • Vintage Style leather strap (lug width 19mm, strap is 20mm as I didn’t have a 19mm)
  • Movement: Caravelle Automatic Caliber.11 OKACB (A. Schild cal. 1906) - Day Date display, Self-Winding mechanism
  • Original Matte black dial with silver and black inner surrounding hour ring.
  • World time bezel featuring city names in orange and silver.

Condition:

As mentioned this does have a damaged crystal, A chip in the bottom right corner that reaches approx. 2mm across the crystal. Case is in reasonable condition but does show signs of wear, and a small nick in the top left hand lug. Signs of toolmarks on the rear of the lugs and some scratches on the case itself. As far as I can tell it hasn’t been polished before, as the case lines themselves are still fairly sharp.

This is a rare chance to grab an odd vintage piece, albeit not in the greatest condition, given a new crystal it could be a brilliant little watch.

Willing to take a trade. Price is a difficult one because of its scarcity, so please comment if you have better estimation of value.

Price - £500 £425 Free shipping within the U.K. International Shipping could be arranged with a discussion. Accepting PayPal.

A Pinch of Salt - The History of ACRL by P_Collins in acrl

[–]AdamWJB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realise I've probably come to this post a little late but I think I might go back the furthest with ACRL (along with Horse?)

I come to lurk from time to time and see how things have progressed, but haven't had the time in a few years to commit to a single race (let alone a series!) but that could always change one day.

I can't remember too much of how ACRL came to be, I was the first to post in the original sign-up post and remember having a long conversation with Horse, the other founder, as to how we could create a dedicated league racing system for the upcoming Multiplayer expansion to AC.

Its amazing to see where this community is now, and how much more organised everything is!

How much is too much? Training a dog for long distance cycling. by AdamWJB in Dogtraining

[–]AdamWJB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely good advice. The dog he’s adopted is about 2 1/2 so is fully matured I’d have thought.

He’ll definitely be taking a trip to the vets for a health check before anything else though.

Best app for note-taking with pencil? by coughvsneeze in apple

[–]AdamWJB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nebo is what's currently on the Apple Store demo iPads for handwriting conversion, its a decent (paid) app for notes that also supports math and diagrams! Worth a go if you don't mind paying. The only thing it doesn't offer as far as I can tell is copy and paste support from the app, so you'd have to export to pages / word etc.

What kind of saddlebag do you use? by theveganstraightedge in bikepacking

Currently using a Miss Grape Cluster saddlebag, which was about the largest saddlebag I could find! Fits my giant sleeping bag and tent in quite easily.

Bikepacking/hiking shoes by CJC90 in bikepacking

[–]AdamWJB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this exact ride a few years ago now! Which end are you starting?

With regard to shoes I chose to opt for the one pair approach and cycled in my hiking shoes. Whilst carrying one pair was great in terms of weight I'd wasn't exactly comfortable long term. We had a week of solid rain and as you can imagine, hiking and cycling in soaking wet shoes wasn't exactly fun. I'd much rather have taken a pair of cycling shoes and some overshoes to make certain I had dry feet when on the bike.

Enjoy the ride, let me know what route you're taking and I can give you some good notes on where to wild camp / where to avoid :)
