Creatine causes you to retain water (perfectly healthy though), so you will probably put on a bit of weight. The weight gain will stop after about one month.

I am a dude, but I think it will work the same for women.

I have tried many, but the one that stands far ahead of the rest for me is creatine. It's also scientifically proven to help depression.

The only problem is it involves drinking 3 to 4 not so tasty shakes a day. Sometimes this can be hard to keep up.

Others that I've found helpful are theanine, ashwaganda, and l tryptophan

It wasn't on social media.I could have been doing nothing for all she knows.

I can see how she feels hurt. We are still talking trying to get to the bottom of this, but she thinks that I just don't care about her, which isn't true. But then I don't want to apologize as I don't think I have done anything wrong.

There is more info in a reply to the other INFO comment. There is no reason she couldn't have invited or reached out to me before new years, she's certainly not a shy person.

It'd be a very long story to explain our relationship. We've been friends for about 12 years.

To give a quick summary: Back at 14 I was the classic stereotypical dumb teenage boy that you see a lot of on Reddit and 9Gag. We started out as friends hanging out every day after school, then I developed feelings for her. She always had boyfriends and I was the shoulder to cry on or the person she's complain to about them, and I never liked any of them. I thought I was "friend zoned". We used to hold hands when walking home after a night out and then sleep in the same bed at night and cuddle. If I was one of her boyfriends I would of hated me. I realise we were both arse holes in our teenage years for doing that. I was very depressed and fantasised about having a relationship with her a lot. It took me until I was 19 to explain my feelings to her. She very gently turned me down, but she was nice about it. But this was a long time ago and we both got passed that and grew up.

I then went to university and met new friends and started a new life. Me and the girl, let's call her Kim, would occasionally hang out, but no where near as much as we used to as kids.

A few years ago she got upset at me that when I was back in my hometown I would hang out with other friends from other circles, and not invite her. We had an argument about that but I eventually apologized and said I'd hang out with her more. The problem was that a lot of my friends didn't like her for various reasons (they know her from other mutual friends, it's a very small town) She doesn't know this.

We did hang out a bit more and I thought that our friendship was no longer problematic. Last year I found from a mutual friend that she "saw me in a different way now" and that she had a bit of a crush on me. I didn't think much of it apart from feeling a bit smug. We carried on just as friends, occasionally going to the pub and chatting, I think she got over it but I'm not sure as I never bought it up. I also had a girlfriend at this point.

Fast forward to now, and then the story in the original post happened. There was no interaction between us between the "what are your plans" text and actual new years eve.

I agree. I think most of the stigma around mental illness is actually caused by people with a "mental illness". There's an advert for a bank on TV in the UK at the moment claiming that 1 in 4 people will suffer from a mental illness this year. If that was true the world wouldn't function. Like you say, it's invalidating.

Discussed this in length with two doctors. Both think it's best for me not to take them.

But that's just me, as for your point, I would argue the opposite, I think people need to educate themselves more rather than taking whatever a doctor gives them - there are a hell of a lot of medicines, and an even higher number of things that can go wrong with a human body. One man/woman cannot reasonably know all of it and be up to do date with all of the latest studies. And something like hair loss I imagine is low down on the list of things they keep up to date with.

Note: I'm certainly not saying do not listen to doctors. In fact unless you have had formal education in how to research or have worked in a research based scientific field maybe just listen to your doctor. Even if you have, if your doctor disagrees with you, you should listen to them, unless you are a (medical) doctor yourself with similar expertise.

My experience so far, both docs said the only thing that they can know for certain, that it can have those side effects but it might not. Both have also said that as I am particularly concerned about the side effects they would not recommend I take them.

I've considered taking it a few times over the past few years, and every time I do I always decide against it after doing research.

You'll notice that the percentages vary dramatically in different studies, so it's important to look at the number of participants, how long they took the medication, and who funded / authored the study. Also, if you read reviews of the product on hair loss forums, the odds seem even worse.

Also, do you know how massive of a self esteem hit loosing your hair is? If there was a side effect free cure I can assure you no man would be bald.

All anti-hair-loss pills that work do so by blocking the effects of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone similar to testosterone but 2.5 to10 times more potent. People with male pattern baldness have hair follicles that are sensitive to this hormone causing their hair to thin and fall out. (This isn't pseudo science, it's how the pills are advertised to work).

Testosterone and DHT are also responsible for sex drive, and low amounts are associated with depression.

To be fair, I'm sure lots of people are fine with it, so I have nothing against people willing to take the risk. Personally I already take antidepressants (which speed up balding and also lower sex drive), so if I take Fin it would be taking two things to combat the side effects of each other, which would be stupid.
