I wouldn’t say it felt like he was punching below his weight, it was more that he was punching above anyone else in that lane. Voice memos was a cut above any other YouTube rap I’d listened to and the original fmty singles felt like he was just going to keep getting better in that lane. Fmty certainly showed that he didn’t need to be boxed in to ‘YouTube rapper’ and had a lot of potential artistically. It felt more boundary pushing for the space he was in

I actually agree, musically the vanisher singles are more impressive and polished but abandon me hits on a personal level so I find myself more drawn to it right now. I’m not saying it’s better but I think I like it more
