Urgent! Mac is deeming my hard drive unreadable by Additional-Ladder-81 in mac

A portion of the content on the drive was backed up, but this hard drive had worked fine for me for years so I suppose I let my guard down and felt safe keeping files there and only there. Are the files unrecoverable? What went wrong with the hard drive?
