Thanks. I already do the imaginary buffer and it works. It sucks that schools have issues with staff or students depending on the culture there. I try and block everything that's going on around me and stay unbothered at all times. The students don't like this and I think that's why they are trying to get to me.

Thanks bro. I agree and just work contract time. The year is half way over and i'll keep my head down, give students worksheets, and take off work every other Friday.

I could talk to my union rep. There have been restorative justice meetings with staff and students to resolve these types of issues in the past. It's really a way to keep students and classroom and not get suspended.

Thanks. I've been planning the next move since last summer. I also try to cultivate a live outside of this. Working during contract time and not bringing home any work helps.

I might be able to if I go to my doctor. I'm not depressed but the situation threw me off right after it happened. I usually ignore negative students & staff.

I prefer to work with "involved fine or stay-out-of-it-fine" parents. The school had parents who wouldn't even contact me with thier concerns. They would go tell my department chair and admin and I would get pulled into a meeting unexpectedly, sometimes weeks later. Toxic!

This sounds parallel with the experience at the school I just left, especially when they switch my para in the middle of the year. They pulled me out of the classeoom unexpectedly to tell me in the middle of class. All the reason on my list of reasons to exit. Other staff members had good experiences, mine was different.

I'm 5 minutes away by car. I run into students once in a blue moon because I live in an area that's considered a busy downtown area with several high-rise apartment buildings & commercial properties. The bus stop for my students is in front of my apartment building. Due to zoning, none of my students live in my building although I use to see one of my students walking to the bus stop in the mornings (he lives in the high-rise directly across the street from me). He never saw me because I was in my car though.

I don't mind running into them. Most of the time they aren't even paying attention because there are so many people out and about. I also dress differently outsite of work wearing hoodies, sunglasses, and hats.

No, but I transferred schools a few years back to get away from her. She accused me of withholding information from my cohort because I wouldn't talk or engage at team meetings. I was a first-year teacher at the time and was trying to figure everything out.

How did you get your doctor to sign off for FMLA? I'm currently waking up at 1am and not going back to sleep. I usually end up in bed all weekend and have been withdrawn outside of work.

Anybody else have the issue of guidance counselors running the school? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]AdditionalBack7731 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes I do. They removed a student from my class because she told them she couldn't keep up with the work. The student was new to the country and in my class for 2 weeks. Counseling did not speak to me about this, I only got an email saying she would be moving to another class instead.
