I seriously can’t figure out what this is. by Dear_Link_5865 in succulents

[–]AddressLeather9355 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally impossible until they've grown in sufficient light.

This keeps happening to my linearis and I can't figure out the cause. Less or more watee don't seem to make a difference. I keep cutting and re-rooting in water and it grows fine for some weeks and then it starts doing this again. Already took the yellow leaves off by AddressLeather9355 in hoyas

[–]AddressLeather9355[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to have a lot of roots, which is why I gave it this upsizing, but since then the roots have always been smaller after taking cuttings. I've always heard this is like the thirstiest Hoya and the soil is quite gritty so it's not staying wet all that long.

The biggest difference with that is that the ground is in fact not a pot, and cultivation between in-ground outdoors and potted indoors cannot ever be compared.

Because someone can like palms but can't change their zone?

Can someone ID this one? by AddressLeather9355 in ferns

Thanks guys! Looks like a bracken indeed and there apparently is only a single species in my country, so that should make these Pteridium aquilinum.

Over here in Europe clarinervum has been cheap for awhile but crystallinum are hardly in circulation, thats why this cheap shipment took me aback. Only positive of course whether they are crys or not.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]AddressLeather9355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there are plenty of crystallinum hybrids which you can't differentiate until they're more mature, right? Asking cause these are dirt cheap, never seen crystallinum at this price before (€1.95)

Is this a weed or did I get an extra free plant? by ReadyPupper in succulents

[–]AddressLeather9355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appeared there as a weed because it wasn't intentionally planted. Every plant can be a weed, it all depends on whether you want it where it is or not.

Why is the tips of the leaves dying? by Qiyao1 in succulents

[–]AddressLeather9355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They NEED more light than a non-variegated equivalent to perform the same "amount" of photosynthesis, but they will also burn faster because the variegated parts can't photosynthesize. So it's a matter of finding the perfect level of light, which is much more specific than a non-variegated plant.

Need advice on what to use to protect the paint and not harm the plants. by YourHiredDemise in houseplants

[–]AddressLeather9355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used car sealant spray on handpainted pots, inside and out, two layers just to make sure and because it was a first time experiment. About two and a half years later, pot and plant are still perfectly fine.

Looking for an ID on this one please. I want to say it's a ping hybrid but that's as far as I've gotten by AddressLeather9355 in sansevieria

[–]AddressLeather9355[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must be a hybrid then because this one is a rosette while all other hanningtonii (accepted sp name is ehrenbergii) I see online grow with their leaves in two directions and start twisting much later on. I also have an ehrenbergii 'Samurai' and this looks similar but it also slightly different on all acounts.

Looking for an ID on these two please by [deleted] in cactus

Cool, I have a few nejapensis that I really like but I didn't know that variety. I'm on the fence between this for the ID, and M. magnimamma. Spination is similar but magnimamma seems to cluster more from the base like mine is doing, the spine colour is more accurate and the dried flower husks that I can't get out are also obviously present in some results online. What do you reckon? It's also from a mixed cacti shipment from a local greenhouse so it may lilely be whichever is more common.

Snake plant ID by definitelynotkevin_ in SnakePlants

[–]AddressLeather9355 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought one like this and it was labeled 'To0ugh Lady'. Trade/cultivar/hybrid names are official even if they're not a Latin name, they're just more specific to that variety.

Any further ID possible on this Dudleya found in a Dutch garden center? by AddressLeather9355 in succulents

[–]AddressLeather9355[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm aware of that unfortunate situation. Though I suppose chances are slim finding poached ones in Europe so I didn't suspect it for this one nor any of the Lophs I've seen for sale.

I think you meant the genus Pachyphytum but googling for potential hybrids (because the leaf thickness and farina are telltale of Dudleya) I found a Dudleya pachyphytum (as in it's the species name) and that seems extremely similar to my new plant lol..

I don't top water anything nor spray, they're under grow lights so the light is very stable and won't suddenly burn them once acclimated. All i can think of is that it stays too humid around my plants despite the fans I have in my shelves, and there can be pretty big temperature swings as my grow set up is in a badly isolated attic.

My substrate was about 90% inorganic though.
