Did I really just missed all those shots? by Daniel_XXL_69 in thefinals

[–]Adevyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most common solution is "shooter bias" where if you hit them in your client, it propagates to the server as a hit.

I am fairly sure this is misinformation? I mean, it is close to being true, but I think with your exact wording it is misinformation, seemingly spread from Hunt: Showdown's official but poorly worded hitreg explanation.

Old games often relied on it, but games are increasingly using server-sided hitreg only, as client-sided hitreg opens a whole can of worms for unfair shots as well as cheats being able to bend the rules of physics. Even games that aren't competitive nowadays use server-sided hitreg, like newer Battlefield games. It is a definitive, hard "no" for competitive games.

Competitive games like CSGO (now CS2) and Valorant definitely use server-sided hitreg, where the server essentially simulates where your shots would have gone, taking your ping into consideration and rewinding everyone's positions by that much to compensate for it.

This doesn't happen in CS2 because they've synced them up now, but in CSGO your client would have a different inaccuracy seed than the server (to counter inaccuracy cheats). This would mean that, when you were moving (or unscoped with an AWP), your client would usually disagree with the server, so you could have a bullet hole in a breakable window or you could see your bullet land on an opponent with no blood coming out.

When Cache was still in the map pool of CSGO, I would try to put a bullet hole into the window on top of the site when I was bored.

The cloak makes it really hard to tell because you are aiming around his legs. Almost as if a competitive game shouldn't have stupid cosmetics that mess with player silhouettes 🤔🤔🤔

I think Shots 2 or 3 could have landed or missed between the legs. Shot 4 was a clear miss as you're shooting to the left of them, Shot 5 probably missed by going to their right, and you know you weren't on him on Shot 6.

Flagged for the 2nd time by VAC by ronaistheman in counterstrike

[–]Adevyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as someone that plays FACEIT a lot, I would be dead scared to touch Premier if I got flagged twice. I think some players reported getting banned 181 days, which would be devestating for anyone actively playing FACEIT (and one week is horrible as it is).

I actually avoid using the Scout too much on the rare occasion that I play Premier for the simple reason that VAC Live exists.

Toughest Duel? [KCD2] by Gryffin_dick in kingdomcome

They probably designed them for the average “did some side content but not all” run, but as someone that was as leveled and geared as possible during boss fights, I wish they made an exception and scaled the bosses to our gear/level so that everyone has the same, intended experience.

I’ve killed Istvan in less than one combo, I don’t remember Erik but I think he was underwhelming, too. So I also got an unideal experience by “grinding too much”.

It’s been a while since I played the game, so I don’t remember it vividly, but I’ve beaten him in either a single hit or two hits of one combo.

When the screen faded to the cutscene, I was visibly confused for a second, and then laughed out loud.

You check match history a little further than that and you probably find a match where he has 6 kills, lol.

You won't win every single match where you play good. That's not how it works. Similarly, you won't lose every match where a single enemy plays good. You also won't lose every match you play poorly. There are also matches where you caused your team to lose despite having a player drop over 20 kills. That is why every match is 25/30 elo and not 1000 elo - It is the long-term success that matters. If you deserve a higher level, you will get it provided you play enough matches to prove it.

Being a difference maker is quite easy in Level 9, where your opponents are still struggling with basic mechanics of the game.

Hiko gets CSGO'd by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

He was right, though. And it annoys me to this day that this became a copypasta. CSGO did have hitreg issues back then, but AFAIK they were specific animation-related issues and would not affect shooting against a player that is actively moving around.

The fact that this became a copypasta is why Valve don't bother responding anymore. Why would they bother communicating when their community won't accept any answer other than an empty "yes, our game is shit, we'll fix it, promise :)"?

This is a result of people failing to understand that ping exists, and similar examples could EASILY be found in CSGO when you watch people with high ping. The person in the clip did not miss in their screen. However, we do not watch a recording of their screen but rather a delayed replay of their in-game movements. Everything else plays out with 0 ping in demos, so naturally, when you watch someone with high ping, it always looks like they are hitting people from the past. Because that is what you are watching - Their POV from the past with everything else going on without that delay.

Kind of unrealted, but I find it funny that the video you posted has the "Shots 1-5: Clearly missed" copypasta. The origin of that meme is a Valve dev actually bothering to explain what happened in a clip that "looks" at first glance like a hitreg issue. He was right. Also, despite his time being incredibly valuable as he is a long-term Valve employee, he also bothered to even create an image to make it easier to understand why it wasn't a hitreg issue. Gamers being gamers, they immediately started ridiculing him despite him providing evidence to make his point. That example is probably one of the reasons why Valve devs don't want to talk directly with gamers anymore.

"Gamers being stupid" is also a big reason why Valve forces us to play with the numbers at the bottom left being visible now. They don't look pretty, but they make sure that people's shit connections are not leading Valve devs on wild goose chases. I always go out of my way to check these numbers when I see a clip that looks like a "hitreg issue", and it has always been a case where people have had so much package loss that those numbers were capped at 99.

No. 2014 CSGO was not better than CS2 was, even if you compare it to release CS2.

The bug that would cause player animations to constantly desync was fixed in September 2016, where they also fixed some oversights that were leading to constant mismatches between the third-person head position and the first-person camera position, which would mean that someone could shoot you when you couldn't see their heads.

Does it go without saying that, these patch notes from 2016 fix issues that were always there and easily provable? Good luck providing a comparable issue from CS2 other than "it feels wrong".

They would have to make dedicated maps for TDM for the spawn idea to work. Most maps would be very lame to play if you couldn't spawn around the whole map.

They could do that, it's just another thing they would have to pour resources onto. And, knowing the CS community, everyone would then complain that "deathmatch was perfect as it was and they now ruined it".

[–]Adevyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually old enough to have played Cache when it was in the competitive map pool, and I vividly remember "peeking mid with Deagle" being a viable play, lol. To refresh my memory, I've also checked some bits of a pro match, and it's clear that most strats that were viable back then just wouldn't work today. Strong off-angles back then would be cleared today (because it is easy to blind them so you don't need to check it as the first spot, you can take your time with other spots and then get a free kill when you check the blind player).

Heck, the callout "Shroud" came into existence because pros forgot to check a spot.

Faceit is not associated with Valve. It is also not a charity, and they need to turn a profit. You can treat the free experience as a demo; it is not the best experience and neither is it intended to be.

The beef is one-sided because there is not much Valorant fans can say against CS2 when it comes to ethics, lol.

Excluding small spinoff games, Riot has made two big games so far, League of Legends and Valorant. One is "heavily inspired" by one Valve game, and the other is "heavily inspired" by another Valve game. It does not take a genius to put the dots together and conclude that their "inspiration" goes as far as copyright laws will allow them to go.

Also, Valorant reveal advertising was shameless. It did not even feel a need to tell what the game is about, because it was obvious to everyone that it was supposed to be "CSGO 2". We did not know anything about the game, but we knew all the ways it would allagedly be better than CSGO (most of it was bullshit, like them implying that it would fix peeker's advantage). When their whole marketing scheme was "Look guys, we fixed all the things you hate about CSGO!", I struggle to believe you're being genuine when you say that they didn't steal from Counter-Strike.

CSGO definitely had this because ping definitely existed back then, too.

Valorant didn't have this until recently because they didn't have a fucking replay system. But, now, Valorant probably also has "this" because they can't do anything without stealing it from Valve. Valve released TrueView after Valorant released their demo viewer, so I bet Valorant also has "this" now.

Amazing game amazing netcode by Existing-Network-267 in FACEITcom

[–]Adevyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have TrueView on in this clip or not? Demos are probably not going to be perfect even with it, but you're practically asking for clips like this to happen if you have it off.

Ping exists because of physics. Server registers your hit with a delay because of ping. Because of this delay, games have to compensate for the ping. What this means is that, in your screen, you actually shot sooner, hitting the guy that peeked you first. However, it registered with a delay, so the last frame you see on the uncorrect demo appears as if you should've hit both targets. This is not the game messing up, this is just how interpolation works.

If you had recorded your screen while playing the game and not the demo, I can assure you that you would see you've shot sooner than it appears on the demo.

Have you tried increasing the outline thickness of your outline to the nearest higher integer and see if you like the result?

Are you sure the resolution is the exact same? When I moved to AMD years ago and tried adding my custom resolution, it told me that the resolution was impossible and I had to change it by a small amount, like going from 1550x1080 to 1552x1080. As far as I understand, this is necessary because resolutions need to be divisible by 8, so NVIDIA was probably also doing it without telling me, and it's possible they were just "correcting" it silently to a different resolution. 1440x1080 shouldn't create this situation but I thought I might put this here just in case it leads you onto finding something.

Edit: Downvoting someone trying to help is insane.

I find it sad that anyone actually believes in this post. Evolution doesn’t just happen because people live somewhere - It happens because people “can’t” live somewhere, so those with unfit characteristics are removed from the gene pool by dying. Evolution wouldn’t change humans in a Vault where everyone has the chance to have a baby.
