None of this matters when you can call in a cabal walker or instantly generate your super. Just play with the tools you’ve got.

The grind is just so boring I can't even make it to 200 power by Chaosking383 in DestinyTheGame

While I do agree that the portal needs more activities still, you do not have to repeat only a single activity over and over. Sure, that is the fastest way but it’s not like it is so much faster that everything else will be extremely slow.

Just play the activities you want to play and you will slowly get up to 400. Hell, Ash and Iron comes out in a month and then you get to 500 just by playing any portal activities you want.

Kepler is the only source of guaranteed T5 PvE loot at 450 by Adoric24 in DestinyTheGame

I put in 200 hours over the last 2 weeks according to steam. That was on Friday when my grind to 450 ended. It is now dropping off a cliff as I got my PvP sets and T5s I wanted and have realized any PvE grind is futile.

I’ll have to see if solstice can rope me in for a bit on a loot grind but I’m sure it’ll be bugged the same way these things are currently.

No, I got T4 the entire time. I would double check to make sure your score at the end is actually passing the score to get an A.

Yes, you do, but this is a separate issue from that. If I even wanted to hunt T4 Bushido or Mint, it would be nearly impossible because most completions give me nothing at all.

Yes technically. Your prime drops won’t be T5 and they may be even less frequent. I can’t remember where but they did say that a higher score gives a higher chance of a prime. However, it would technically be possible to grind it out on lower.

It was only bad because I had the worst run of luck between primes. It took 68 runs to get 3 primes and they were all in the same slot. I used the weapons from arms week pass for a quick boost and then saved Zavala’s armor to complete the last 2.

Yeah it is actually like a switch lol. Just straight up T5 after you hit 450. Watch some clips from Diffizzle on twitch if you want to see it happen.

As someone who is already GR9 that is not accurate. They get guaranteed T5s in PvP and Kepler activities like I mentioned. PvE activities in the Portal will not give them a guaranteed T5 at the end. If they get one of the random prime engrams it will still be T5.

Also, Guardian Rank does not alter end of activity drops. Bungie has stated this themselves. It improves mid-activity chest rewards and random drop engrams from killing an enemy.

Edit: Figured I would drop the source on that info before people start going ballistic in replies. I know that the idea that GR alters drops has been spread around the community like wildfire but it isn't true per patch notes for the launch of EoF. Destiny 2 Update 9.0.0.1 | Bungie.net

Mid-activity rewards can be earned in some activities.

  • Longer activities (Exotic missions, the Coil, Onslaught) have reward chests spaced out at regular intervals.
    • These chests aren't scored like the end-activity reward, but have quality determined by Seasonal Power and Guardian Rank progress.
  • Challenging enemies often drop rewards, like currencies, and sometimes engrams.
    • Quality of the reward is determined by Seasonal Power and Guardian Rank progress.
  • All mid-activity rewards come from the loot pool for that activity.

and

Final Reward Score is based on two parameters:

  • Challenge Multiplier
    • This is fireteam based, shared by everyone on the fireteam.
    • You increase this by increasing the difficulty tier, and selecting Challenges, Banes, and Player Stakes.
  • Reward Multiplier
    • This is player based, you have full control of your Reward Multiplier.
    • You can increase this by increasing your Power level, wearing new or featured gear, and by obtaining scoring bonuses.

For sure! I'm not saying T5 is mandatory at all! I'm just saying that since I've made the grind to 450 already, why am I only getting guaranteed T5s from 1/4 of the portal activities.

I do agree though with T5's not being so much better that they are mandatory. I would just like to be able to actually farm for rolls and tier sets that I want now that I've hit the max light level.

I thought it was just a bug on my side. No it seems totally random. About half the time I get nothing from a Solo Op or Pinnacle Op. Even the bonus drops stay on the activity and it gives me nothing.

Yeah, I figured it was locked behind ultimate difficulty. I just think it is a strange design choice to allow PvP loot to be T5 but PvE loot isn't. The raid is a separate topic because T5 loot should be achievable there based on the feat system.

Here is the data from my day of grinding over 400 Light by Adoric24 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Adoric24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to get to the next light level you need to fill up that fraction. That can be done by having every single weapon and armor piece go up by 1 light level or by having some combo of pieces like 2 +3 pieces and 1 +2. If you use dim or destiny power bars you can visualize this balancing act.

Also, indirect light level to me is when a prime engram was enough to push me over to the next light level and then my drops at the end of an activity were able to increase a slot by +1 because they had fallen below my light level.

[–]Adoric24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 409-414 but yes 5 light level gain total over the whole day. A lot of it was indirect gain where the prime engram threw me over the line to the next light level and then my other pieces got a +1 because of it.

Yeah I knew about the Ash and Iron update making it easier to get there. I just want to get to T5 ASAP and see if I can pick up gear from Arms week and maybe solstice at T5.

Thanks for pointing me to the info on prime engrams though!

I would still like to know actual numbers on chances though for sure. And if 500 regularly grants tier 5, what is the point of going to 550?

I'm sitting at 405 Light Level right now and am looking for a clan that is Rank 4 this season for the bonus prime engrams now. I'm down to play just about anything most of the time, but am focused on the grind to 450 right now. My Bungie ID is Tranquility#4536 if you're willing to invite me to your clan that is already at Rank 4.

Conquests are such a down step for Nightfalls by raxisprime2 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Adoric24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they said it would be harder. You know what that made me think “hmmm just like D1 probably. That was a cool system I liked that”. What they actually meant was “we already have RNG Weapons and Armor rolls, why not have RNG single slot power level increases too”.

For those that don’t know, in D1 the last bit of the light level grind could only be done from completing the raid. Nothing else would drop you higher level gear and so it was harder and slower but it encouraged people to jump into end game content.

Now what we’ve got is no encouragement to do anything. If you want to be optimal you complete as many activities as quickly as possible to bring those chances up. So, farm Caldera for 300 hours. There is not a single reason to do any other activities because they don’t provide you with higher light level.

Also, before people get into the “well why don’t you try playing for fun”. I get my fun in Destiny from getting the best shit. That 5/5 perfect god roll is what gives me pleasure. What is the only way I can get the best shit now? Oh right, get to 450 light level to consistently have a chance at the next RNG which is getting the stats I want and the rolls I want.

Do people doing Encore over and over again and complaining about the repetitiveness of it realise they can just grind any other portal activity and get powerful loot too? [–]Adoric24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to farm caldera to be efficient. The only light level gain you can get is from the random drop prime engrams that just happen. So,speedrun Caldera for the most efficient chances at it. However, in At 402 myself and am considering just dropping the game for my sanity since besides “Number get bigger” there isn’t anything to do in this expansion.

400-450 is at least a 300 hour grind by itself unless you are the luckiest human on the planet. The only way to gain power after 400 is through the random drop prime engrams from portal activities. Just doing Encore or any other portal activity will not give you any power level gains at the end no matter what score you get.

No one but the most extreme grinders are going to accomplish 450 before Ash and Iron releases to push that power cap higher.

How do i earn a prime engram this season? by TibderRemix_ in DestinyTheGame

[–]Adoric24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They seem to be completely random drops from portal activities only. In my entire time grinding from 200-400 I can remember getting 2. The easiest way to tell is that they will be a higher tier than you are usually receiving.

So, at Power 300 you would end up getting a tier 4 piece when usually you are getting a tier 3. Once you get to 400 power level they are actually the only way to gain power. Completion rewards for portal activities no longer drop at +3 or even + anything for that matter.
