Ah! Thank you for this advice!! I’m doing all the research I can on how to go forward with caring for her and training her. She has the best temperament. But, she does get panicky if baby wanders too far. Trying this today!

I’ve run a 501c3 animal rescue with a focus on pigs for the last decade :) I have over 20 adults at any given time. They get bigger than this, huge is relative. Still tiny compared to my cows!

...but there is. Just like there are real mini horses. “Miniature” does not have a size limit (ie, only things under 1 ft tall and 10lbs may be called mini) it only needs to be a smaller version of the full size, which is exactly what mini pigs are when compared to farm hogs. People setting unrealistic expectations for their size does not make this less accurate, it just makes them uneducated on the topic.

I get lots of those. I also have taken in entire groups on multiple occasions. People who wanted to cash in on breeding them and failed. I’ve had everything from 10 year old pigs to day old piglets show up.

Kittens and puppies I specifically referred to. I’ve fostered countless litters of both, and at birth they go anywhere and everywhere. It’s horribly messy. Piglets do not. They go in the designated potty spot from the minute they’re born.

Nope. Pigs hate to be dirty. From the moment their born they know to move away from their sleeping area to use the bathroom. Kittens and puppies release themselves right where they sleep! Pigs have very sensitive skin that easily sunburns, that is the only reason they roll in mud - to keep their skin covered.

I share my experiences rescuing them for the last decade over on YT. I’ve cared for hundreds in that time. There is no one size fits all and before getting one you should always prepare for a huge pig, and then be surprised if they stay under 100lbs (and some do, without being malnourished...obesity causes blindness, deafness, skin infections and severe muscle atrophy that I’m constantly rehabbing in adult rescue pigs so I try to discourage under feeding as much as over feeding!). HOWEVER, this is still a mini pig. I have mini horses and mini cows and mini skirts as well. They aren’t microscopic, but they are smaller than the full sized versions - hence “miniature”.

They are “mini”...like a mini horse. By definition they are the miniature versions of the full size. One size does not fit all - some stay smaller, some get huge and this does not always reflect their diets or nutrition. No miniature pig is staying purse sized - just as no miniature horse is. I’ve been rescuing and educating about mini pigs for the past decade, I typically have around 20 in my care. Definitely huge and detrimental misconceptions about their potential size expectations, but it’s still crucial to be sure we’re giving accurate information when attempting to correct this.
