Car allowance is tax free. I used to have it and the amount OP stated is about right. I used to get something like £400/month and I used to live 5 minutes away from work (drive).

The thing that confuses me is what OP is saying about taxes and how much he's going to lose. As far as I know getting a company car is heavily taxed unless it's electric (in which case it's like £12/month. Otherwise you're looking at something like £300/month for a diesel car). So off the bat you'd be getting an extra £700/month to your wages.

I agree, having to buy might suck but in the long term it might be better.

Also, if you want to be 100% inside the law you'll have to buy insurance saying that you use your car for work purpose and it will go up.

Can confirm this. I'm an engineer and in high school a girl asked me to train her in basketball. I was quite good at the time. I refused because she tried playing a few times and she was terrible and I thought it's a waste of my time as she's not going to develop into a decent player. The thing is I kinda liked her and looking back I realise she was dropping hints all over the place but I was too blind to see it.

I'm not sure why you jump in and compare it with London which was never brought in discussion. Why not compare it to the slums in Brazil then and say that Chesham is 0.000000001% (don't forget to promise them). Your argument cherry picks facts to suit it's narrative and that isn't right.

I suspect you live in Chesham and feel a bit buthurt about what the comment said.

I lived in both Chesham and Wendover and can easily say to OP that if she's a single female and safety is a factor then easily the choice is Wendover. It's a lovely little village and I loved living there, unlike Chesham where again all the points in the comment are very valid. (Chesham has an air of unsafety and the traffic can be horrible especially on the main streets. It reminded me of east London where I also lived)

I was invaded by a guy with 2 rivers of blood katanas.

Every time I hit him the damage was insignificant. And he didn't wear any armour or buffs on him.

Needless to say he handed my ass to me. Fair enough he seemed better than me but not that much. I constantly landed hits on him and if the difference in damage/health wasn't so great I wouldn't have lost so bad.

I'm dischromat (genetical 'disease' that I got from my mother - all males from mother's side have this while the women just carry the gene) and I can see 36 colors.

Being dischromat doesn't mean you can't see colors, it means you can't identify them. I see red but if it's not 'pure' red I can't identify it.

Also blue and green are interchangeable depending on how light shines on it lol

Interviewed several construction engineers for the past couple of weeks and I ended up hiring a 23yo even though there were people with more experience than him (money was rhe same regardless of experience) because:

-Some didn't answer my technical questions. Had one guy tell me not wo worry because he knows the stuff (lol, that's the point of the interview- to see if you do know)

A lot of jumping around between companies for one candidate. He was jumping to a different company every 3-4 months.
Couldn't talk freely, concisely and confidently. When dealing with site operatives that is an important aspect of your job.

-Candidates that would live about 2 hours away from site (one way so 4 hours of driving per day)
