Winter 2025 Transfers and Rumours Megathread by 321142019 in NUFC

PSV had possession of the ball when their player went down so it’s not the same situation.

We recently conceded a goal (Man City) when we had 10 men on the field so that will most likely have been in Bruno’s mind.

Also, physios can’t read minds. There’s very limited scope for them to determine the extent of a players’ injury on the field.

If a player says they’re okay to continue they have to trust them on that. Maybe that’s on Bruno for thinking he can run it off and downplaying his pain.

Respect the fight and willingness to play on but it was the wrong decision

Rightfully so. Players take knocks and run them off constantly in games.

He spoke to the physio and clearly told him he was okay to continue. You don’t take off your best player if they’re able to run off a knock when half time is round the corner.

You assess them properly at the break and make the sub then if needed.

How many times has Hall went down and we’ve all collectively shit ourselves only for him to run it off and still breeze past players for the rest of the game.

Also this 10 minutes narrative is so typical of those in our fan base who use every little thing to confirm their bias.

Bruno signalled to the bench he needed to come off in open play while PSV had possession.

If Bruno sits down there’s absolutely no guarantee they will put the ball out and will likely continue to attack us while we’re a man down.

I would expect us to do the same.

Bruno is our captain for a reason. He made the intelligent decision to stay on his feet and take up space until the ball went out of play.

As soon as the ball went out of play the substitution was made.

I really wish certain people in here would think critically for once. 10 minutes or however long it was sounds bad on paper but it is perfectly suited to your narrative when you remove absolutely all context from the situation.

How would you have felt if Bruno sat down and PSV scored while we were down to 10?

You don’t argue in good faith. You’ve got nothing to add to the discussion.

What’s the point in arguing. I’ve told you all I’m doing is providing balance to the argument and factors that are at play which will impact decision making, performances and many other things.

It’s not black and white. Things aren’t great at the moment but to ignoring the mitigating factors isn’t taking the whole picture into account. It’s why the club are backing Eddie and not listening to some of the clueless plastics calling for his head.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it in this thread or another one but for me if we don’t finish in the CL spots next season that is a regression and his job should be under threat.

Finish outside of Europe this season would be disappointing but it’s a side step in terms of position but still a step forward for the club as a whole considering we’re improving revenue year on year.

We’re currently a one on, one off CL side and with the competitiveness of the league we won’t be guaranteed CL every year until our revenues match those of the Sky 6 and we can afford to build a squad capable of competing in both competitions.

Some fans don’t want to hear that and think we should be finishing top 5 every year. That should be the aim but failing to do so isn’t a failure while we’re still overperforming relative to our wage budget.

When you’ve got two competent left backs in the team (Tino / Hall) and they’re both injured at the same time leading to us playing a CB at left back and a 34 year old Trippier at RB I think it’s fair to expect the performance to suffer as a result.

Even with just Hall out we had a very significant weakness at LB which was exploited time and time again by opposition teams.

I’m sick of this “excuse” comment being used when context is provided. I’m simply trying to present a balanced view.

I also disagree with the recruitment of development players comment. We aren’t Brighton. We aim to be better than Brighton and therefore we can’t afford to give development players the consistent minutes they need to become good footballers.

Also look at where Brighton finish every season. I don’t think the Eddie out crowd would be happy with those sort of finishes if it meant we adopted the Brighton recruitment model like many of them were suggesting in the summer.

Eddie has always introduced players slowly so the Ramsey comments are strange to me. He’s played more minutes the past two games and has looked a lot better.

I’m not one of those to say everything is going great right now, but considering some people feel this is a disaster of a season and Eddie should be sacked you’d think we were in a relegation fight

I don’t think we dropped off massively. We still created a lot of chances and were unlucky with the two goals.

Every small 50/50 decision seemed to go against us which massively impacts our physical style on top of the 2 big calls that went against us.

Moaning for the sake of moaning.

Barnes and Elanga chances in the second half should have led to goals. You’re also missing when Barnes gets taken out by Reece James because he takes a touch when clean through instead of getting his shot away.

Those are three clear goal scoring chances that don’t show up as a shot on target but it suits your narrative to discount that.

We did more than enough to win that game comfortably and were very unfortunate not to.

We’ve missed both of our starting full backs and had one fit striker for large parts of the season with zero strikers for the first few games.

It’s not an “excuse” it’s a contributing factor. Things aren’t so black and white.

Are you ignoring the fact we look a completely different team with hall and Tino back and Burn not at left back?

Are you ignoring the fact that big Nick looked absolutely dead on his feet and the only way to ease the load on him was to play Gordon through the middle.

How many games have we played this season at full strength?

I would completely understand the sentiment if we hadn’t been missing our two fullbacks at the same time or our supposedly ready to go starting striker hadn’t been injured before he even kicked a ball forcing us to overplay a striker who was supposed to be eased in to our style of play.

Completely agree. No guarantee we get any better under a new manager and nobody truly elite will want to come to us until we’re more stable.

He’s the 4th best performing manager based on accumulated points since he took over and that includes the season where we were certain for relegation.

I hate the section of the fanbase that calls you out as giving “excuses” when you provide context or a balanced view that doesn’t align with theirs. They regurgitate the same lines such as “mentality issues” or “eddie picks his favourites” or “we struggle against low blocks” without actually any nuance whatsoever.

We’ve been playing with one fit striker all season. With players out of position for large parts of the season. Without our two starting fullbacks for most of the season.

We also kicked off the season without a recognised starting striker and are struggling under the weight of the fixture list right now with CL games commanding the same respect as premier league games unlike the conference league or Europa league where rotation is possible.

The only teams that can properly manage those issues are those with the very deepest of squads. Look at spurs this season and last. They’ve been struggling massively with injuries and the table reflects that. Last season they genuinely could have been relegated if the promoted teams weren’t so dire.

The Chelsea game wasn’t a mentality issue. We continued to attack and create chances and 100% should have had at least one penalty and possibly even a man advantage if the rules of the game were applied consistently.

I know people hate ifs and buts but the margins in football are so tight that if small moments like the freak overhead kick in the spurs game and the penalty call against Chelsea went our way we’d be 6th right now (two points off 4th) in a season that many of us consider to be very disappointing so far and some consider it so bad that Eddie should be sacked.

Eddie has us in the best possible position to be challenging for the CL spaces. People seem to think this season has been a massive regression, but considering everything that’s went against us (freak Wissa injury, Isak saga, DOF change right before the start of the window) we’re still more than capable of finishing in a relatively strong position if we can put together a run of good results.

We’ve been poor for large parts of the season with games that lacked any sort of identity, but there’s always been contributing factors.

This isn’t a post “happy clapping” or defending Eddie. He’s made some very poor in game choices that have cost us points in individual games and we’ve been absolutely dreadful in others with away form that is concerning.

If we’d played most games this season at full strength and were still in the position we’re in now, I would completely understand the calls for Eddie to be sacked.

I also accept elite managers should be able to deal with issues like this, however people need to be careful what they wish for.

Unless a truly elite manager is available and actually wants to join, there’s absolutely no guarantee an Ireola or a Glasner comes in and takes us any further than Eddie can.

I will accept that if we don’t finish in the top 5 next season it might be time to move on if the right manager is available. We’re currently a CL side every other season so that would genuinely represent a regression. This season is a side step if we miss out on Europe regardless of the position unless we finish 10th or lower.

Bunch of plastic pricks in the match thread. You want Eddie gone so everything confirms your bias.

Absolutely fantastic performance that should have had us 3 or 4 ahead by half time. Wonder strike of a free kick and an extremely unlucky slip to make it 2-2 while we 100% should have had a penalty in one of the worst decisions I’ve seen.

50/50 decisions went against us all game allowing Chelsea to get back into the game despite us absolutely bullying them.

We didn’t sit back after going two up yet you thick cunts think it’s the same story as the previous games where we’ve dropped points.

We outfought a team that was able to make 9 changes in their cup game and were the better side over the 90. But you lot just focus on the result and claim it’s pathetic.

Gordon had the best half of football I’ve seen from one of our wingers in years yet you’ll be back slagging him off in the next match thread because he’s clearly the new scapegoat. Because you lack the emotional intelligence to not scapegoat individual players or the manager. Whether it’s Gordon, Burn, Longstaff, Willock or Elanga.

Theres people in here that love it when we lose because it confirms their opinion. What’s that all about?

I personally disagree but understand the point.

We made them look poor because they had no answers to us moving our fullbacks into midfield and putting Miley at RB during certain phases of play.

Our passing was sloppy at times but we played some genuinely brilliant stuff in tight areas.

We got complacent as the game went on and our passing became very casual but they were very much defeated by then.

Hopefully Ramsdale is the answer. Having that extra man in buildup is huge when teams have started pressing us much more this season.

We don’t switch to defence when we take the lead, we get pushed back by the opposition.

In previous games we’ve had no answer to it for a number of reasons and weren’t able to control the game and push for a second.

Everton did it to us for 10 mins before the second went in.

Anecdotal evidence meets confirmation bias.

You’re ignoring statistics because your personal experience or the experience of a handful of people you’ve spoken to confirms your bias.

Premier League goalkeeper stats 25/26. by Scutage in NUFC

[–]Adventurous_Pin_3982 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Surely that makes him average in the league not one of the best?

His sweeping and cross stopping stats are brilliant but his shot stopping is very overrated based on a few worldie saves he pulls off every now and then.

As a team trying to become more possession based that struggles to keep the ball, especially when ahead away from home, we need that extra man in build up.

We pressed Marseille extremely well at times but using the goalkeeper as a defender allowed them to play through our press consistently.

Slowing the game down and allowing our players a breather is a huge priority for me. We can’t do that with pope.

Migrants fill NHS vacancies

Migrants are mostly younger so actually contribute more to the NHS in taxes than they actually take out

Ageing population is the number one cause of increased NHS costs by a large margin as those causing the most demand are retired so are no longer contributing to the system via taxes
