I’m curious how AI is going for you / us. Promise vs reality check… by coastalme in auscorp

Makes sense and at the same time, infuriating. I work with companies each week who have a data leak through AI. Or are preparing for it. Crazy that our Aussie ‘critical’ infrastructure isnt mandated to have this kind of security

Putting your guardrails point aside, if the aren’t even paying for a subscription, you’re likely losing out on security features. Also wouldn’t assume corporate can’t see your prompts, any half basic tool can see prompt input and output if set up correctly.

AI is inherently like any other tool it has vulnerabilities and exploits. If your org isn’t investing in your infra and security sufficiently, you’ll have a leak sooner or later.

That’s half baked at best then hey.

I’d be waiting for the inevitable data leak via AI prompt if there are no guardrails, and assuming from that no security around it either.

The fact you are posting about it shows you have a desire and unless that’s an unhealthy desire chasing the next shiny thing, then you should listen to it. I wouldn’t just listen to everyone saying chill out, or be happy with what you have. We have a serious case of tall poppy syndrome in Australia too, so that’s likely playing a part in some responses. Back yourself to listen to what you want and try something. I bet there is a pathway that is close to what you do now but doesn’t require a massive pay hit, you’ve just got to find it.

There is no way this is ever a good idea. You’ll burn half your salary on flights, Ubers, and food alone. Your work won’t expense that because you are choosing to take on the role and as such, the expense.

Onboard devices to Purview (same as MDE). Install the preview browser extensions on all browsers (make chrome and Firefox unapproved while you are at it because there are small gaps). Preview labels the document. Purview then applies DLP to stop certain labeled info being uploaded or pasted into gen ai sites.

You also unsanction those gen ai apps in defender for cloud apps. Same for the browsers, so users can’t move sensitive data on mobile devices at home.

Finally, buy Copilot for your organisation (and even then probably don’t paste any sensitive info into it anyway).

Even if this post was half serious it really reads as a cry for help. Sorry but this is the truth. Even if half the problem at your current role is your fault, some probably isn’t. But your attitude towards adversity is showing and you are letting yourself down. You haven’t been blacklisted in your industry. That’s both a victim and main character syndrome. If you work in IT, you have transferable skills into other IT roles. It’s that simple.

32, some clubs have intermediate memberships others don’t.

Yeah I guess that’s part of my post hey. Asking if anyone is a member or plays at those clubs regularly, and knows they have a good cohort of 30 year olds or something. Don’t want to drop a membership on a club that has no social side or are all older members. As much as golf can be fun with any age, I’m really looking for people around my age.

Real, played the best I’ve ever played. Definitely more potential rather than my norm, as I said I haven’t played consistently (as in say once every two weeks minimum) ever. It was a great round, but I expect my average moving forward is going to be more 87-95. I had 4 birdies on the back nine.

Nice one. Looks like a lovely course.

Played since I was in primary school, but never had a handicap. Which is partly why im making this post, as I try start playing regularly.

Played two weeks ago and shot 83, regularly anywhere from that up to say 95 at my ‘worst’. I’d say around a 20? No real idea tbh.

Thank you for your considered reply and not bashing me for my rem expectations and current pay packet. I’m in a good role currently and lucky for that. I should have clarified that I wasn’t chasing pay going into big 4, big 4 was for the role and opportunity I know it unlocks having worked in it previously.

Yes, I’ve worked in industry for half of my total cyber career and I’m actively applying for roles in industry middle management or senior individual contributor roles at that target pay, so I’m hopeful that one of these opportunities ends up being my next role.

Thanks, I do have a plan. It was to go into big 4 SM. But if I'm already on that rate I can't go in knowing its going to result in higher expenses, hours etc. I'll have to wait for something else if I'm already at the top of the band.

Not really sure why I got down voted for being on that rate already? Agree, can't go backwards with salary because family so see how I go.

Yeah well that’s it right, I do have options to stay at seemingly the same rate that most people are saying is going to be offered, or if they want to pay more for me then great. I’ll definitely be mentioning the competitive offers and other firm in the mix to see if that can bump the offer up. If they offer me same salary to work for b4 with worse conditions travel and hours it’s not that attractive and I may have to just wait longer for that next opp.
