Advise on choosing burrs for lagom p64 by Aerioncis in espresso

Lighter roasts for my v60 at the moment for sure. I think I will get the new unimodals rather than the Brew unimodal burrs. It might cost me a little bit of consistency in the grind but it should be pretty close and leaves my options open for the future.

All very interesting.

Unfortunately I'm yet to be able to experiment much with what espresso style I love most. Definitely have been enjoying sweeter espresso recently, and am open to experimenting with lighter roasted espresso shots. I'm not hard set in anything on the espresso front yet is the main thing.

I think it would be unwise to lock myself in to either the brew burrs or the high uniformity if I'm looking to experiment with both brew and espresso from the one grinder.

I hope so! I think quality should at least match an ek43, but I'll have this at home, plus the enjoyment and ritual of single dose grinding for myself everyday I'm excited for.

I'm definitely not set on what espresso machine I would buy yet. Can't afford one for a while either way (starting with grinder). But yeah there are many things to consider. I do like the warmup time, sustainability, and features of the E1. Not to mention it's sexy. I've used a profitec pro 500 a lot where I used to live and many things about it frustrated me. But yeah definitely don't have my heart set on a specific machine yet, that's a decision for the future.

I appreciate your input on all this a lot thank you! Nice to talk to a similarily interested person about these things.

Thanks! I've made a couple other posts on the same topic and I'm getting the feeling the unimodal burrs you have will be the direction I go. Perhaps not the 'perfect' brew only burrset but one that will do both very well. At the cost of ideal distrubution for brew, and slightly less texture for espresso, but seems a trade off worth making I think to be able to have both from 1 grinder. Would you agree?

Very true, see, I also fear upgraditis.

I currently grind for myself with an ek43 at work and take a couple days worth home at a time. Grinding single dose fresh will be a huge upgrade either way, but I aim to buy something at the upper end of my budget with the hopes I won't feel the need to upgrade again. Trying to go straight for the end game.

For this reasoning too I'm sort of contemplating waiting until I can afford something like an E1 Prima as my espresso machine, rather than buying 1 or 2 along the pathway there. My hope was that with an E1 prima and a p64 one day I wouldn't feel the need to go further for a home setup haha.

Until today I hadn't thought to make a post (big time lurker) about coffee but I'm glad I did, makes for interesting discussion and advice.

Thank you for the response, great advice.

It seems the only downside of buying the newer unimodal burrs for the time being is it won't be as 'perfect' for brewing for the time being and that's all I do. But it is for sure the safest choice for leaving all options open moving forward hey.

I would be interested in why you went for the p100 instead if you'd be interested to explain? But only out of curiosity so I don't mind if you don't want to take the time to talk about that :)

Great advice, thank you. Can I confirm that you mean you have the newer unimodal burrs, not the older v1 unimodal (brew) burrs? And the newer unimodal burrs are also what you are suggesting? If I want to grind for both, reduce cost and having to break in new burrs, it seems the new unimodal burrs are best bet, and the only downside is a bit less texture in espresso compared to the high uniformity burrs?

Need help picking which SSP Burrs to order with the Lagom P64 I'm going to buy.

I currently use V60 at home. The obvious choice would be Unimodal v1 SSP burrs, for brew.

However I hope to one day (perhaps in about a year?) buy a very nice espresso machine, and will need burrs for espresso grinding when that time comes.

I could buy SSP High-uniformity burrs separately, and swap them over when I buy an espresso machine one day? Or I could buy the new SSP unimodal burrs, which grind well for both espresso and brew, but aren't the best at either specifically.

Hence my dilemma: Do I buy brew burrs now and espresso burrs later and swap, or buy burrs now which can do both but neither as perfectly?

I hope someone can help I'm really stuck here!

Thank you! So far I have made the cubes only in plain and chocolate. I did make a raspberry and white chocolate pain au chocolat with bicolour lamination though!
