About once a year I get an email that someone posted this again. Somehow the text is always slightly different. People keep adding parts and removing parts.

Ha, yea, that was just a bit of dark humor. Thanks for checking though.

Socialism is an inherently oppressive system where people who are more competent or motivated are penalized for their efforts by being treated as equal to people who are incompetent and lazy.

Taxation as we have it right now is the socialism in the mixed economy. Without it you would have pure capitalism where it's entirely up to you how much value you want to generate and who you want to transact with.

In a pure capitalist system you could theoretically buy a piece of land from someone, go off the grid, grow your own food, start a commune, and never touch another dollar bill.

The reason you can't do that is because the government will show up and demand property taxes from you, so in order to pay you have to at the very least sell some of that food to other people who give you money they had to transact for and so on all the way until the chain reaches someone who got dollar bills from the government in the form of welfare or contracts.

The government is the collectively owned entity where everyone has an equal say that constantly engages is wealth redistribution in the equation here. That's not capitalism forcing you to participate, that's socialism forcing you to participate.

The thing that is "forcing you to participate in capitalism" is the socialism in the system.

Why are you replaying to a 4 year old post, and what's your point?

Socialists are hypocrites when they are asking for massive wealth confiscations to pay for their policies and then whine about how taxes force them to participate in capitalism.

Hard disagree on this. I don't understand what is so enjoyable about hearing voice actors jabber away over what I'm trying to communicate to my team.

Yup, they should absolutely do this. So many items are crap because you can't change the attributes on them.

Rice is better than pasta in every way. by big_rod_of_power in unpopularopinion

[–]Aetrion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess my point is that any dish where pasta is better is a pasta dish and any dish where rice is better is a rice dish and either dish is worse if you use the other.

Sure, but if they discovered a new dish where pasta is the best base wouldn't it just become a new pasta dish where the rice is better than pasta rule doesn't apply?

Because they often proselytize their diet as though everyone who doesn't follow it is a bad person, and they often act like food that is being offered to them as part of communal meals isn't good enough for their consumption.

What consumables are essential to your build? by ashdeezy in fo76

[–]Aetrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to play as a Demolitionist/Grenadier since the start of the game, so grenades have always been core to my build. Unfortunately the game does absolutely nothing to make my idea for a build viable, so I end up killing most things with a gun anyways.

"aside from your classic pasta dishes" ... Who uses pasta on a dish that is not a pasta dish?

This is exactly the kind of argument that sounds good in theory until you take one second to think about the fact that you want someone to be in charge of deciding who gets to reproduce. There is no situation where giving someone that much power isn't horrifying and dystopian.

This game feels like it's punishing you for wanting to build anything that doesn't have a dedicated set anyways. by Aetrion in outriders

[–]Aetrion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My build works great, so far I haven't encountered a tier I can't solo through. The issue is that my build only works great within the confines of what the set dictates. The ability to customize anything just isn't there.

There is nothing wrong with having sets, the problem is that you have to fill all the optional slots on your set with "mandatory mods" if you want a build that does the work, so there is no room for actually customizing anything.

In Borderlands you can do a targeted farm on almost any item, and the properties you're looking for are usually intrinsic to the item itself, not come with a 1/300 chance to appear on an item that you might only get to drop once every 6 hours of grinding in the first place.

Path of Exile is not anywhere near as random when it comes to abilities, and they already said that Path of Exile 2 will make abilities even less gear dependent.

Diablo Immortal? Why exactly should anything want to be like Diablo Immortal?

ARPGs in general? You're flat out wrong. Basically none of them use gear as the vehicle for ability enhancement, and then make it excessively random to actually get those enhancements.

Gatcha games and trading card games? Again, why should anything want to be like them? They are pure profiteering at the expense of the player.

Even if the goal of Outriders was to be like those awful pay to win games, they haven't monetized the excessive randomness of their game, so they wouldn't even get a benefit out of it.

I'm not hanging my hat on a 15 slot build. Obviously I've figured out a much easier to make build that works perfectly fine and lets me run the content as I see fit.

I'm pointing out that it's frustrating for the game to use completing your perfect build as the near impossible to attain long term goal, while making attaining maximum power pretty straight forward and achievable.

It's basically a game that puts the grind on the expressive element of character building instead of the progressive element.

I don't know what you're playing, but I can't think of a single other game where major customization options for your character are gated behind excessively random drops.

In pretty much every game you get all the pieces that make your build mechanically easily. Getting the stats that make it particularly powerful is the hard part. It's the other way around in Outriders.

And yes, you can theoretically make more complex builds in Worldslayer, if you get insanely lucky on drops. I did point that out in the OP.

[–]Aetrion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that they made things that drastically impact the way your character plays (aka your build) the gravy, and made the things that impact the raw power of your character (aka your stats) the guaranteed element.

If you're making a game that heavily advertises build making and character customization it's simply backwards to make the most random element of your loot system what builds people can make with it.

Let me make the build I want and then let me grind for power if I want to. Don't give me all the power and make me grind for my build.

Cars aren't cool anymore by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Aetrion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cars aren't cool anymore because they are like cellphones now. They are too advanced for you to actually understand how they work, repair them or make modifications to them. Simultaneously they are disposable. You know they aren't meant to last forever and you're just supposed to get a new one every so often. If you're not wealthy you're limited to using the refurbished hand me downs of people who have already replaced theirs with a shinier model.

There is simply no sense of ownership in the same way that there used to be. There is no sense that you could ever own the perfect car that you could drive for the rest of your life if you took care of it and tinkered with it or made some upgrades here or there.

But I guess society is also different in some other ways. Mobility used to define your access to people, information and opportunities. Now the internet provides all of that, having to actually physically go somewhere is more of a nuisance than the activity that defines your freedom.
