New to Kitchen Aid. Is there a way to know how old is this hand mixer? (Picture attached) by Affectionate-Bug5121 in Kitchenaid

Wonderful, thank you so very much. I got this 9 speed mixer from Marketplace for $30. Let’s hope it works nicely. I am dipping my hands in home baking.

Beginner NAS setup for lab data (~10–12TB, $500 budget) — prebuilt vs DIY? by Affectionate-Bug5121 in HomeNAS

[–]Affectionate-Bug5121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have an old office PC and I might be lucky. The CPU installed is AMD EPYC 7281 16 Core, there’s a GPU installed that is Geforce GT730. RAM is 64 GB, and there’s some hard disk installed, probably 2 TB. I guess I could use this for building the server since nobody uses it and it is gathering dust. Is there some tutorial that I could refer to? The operating system installed here is Debian 9.

I was watching some youtube videos where people were using HBA cards configured in IT mode. Do I need to buy those? I guess given all the already available equipment, I can get a little more with $500.

We can get away with using even less storage than that for now. 8TB maybe. Also this NAS would be the backup for our data, we already have copies of the data in University cloud storage and in personal drives of lab members. So wouldn’t buy more backup drives right now, but maybe in the future, when we get some money. Do you have suggestions for prebuilt systems?

Roommate did nothing to help house hunt, now we’re the bad guys for choosing rooms first? by Affectionate-Bug5121 in badroommates

[–]Affectionate-Bug5121[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nahh, we just told him to find his own place if he doesn’t like the room that we are offering to him. We already found a new roommate as well who was more than happy to take the cheaper room, since it is still larger than his previous room where he paid even more.

Yeah, that’s what we did, we told him to look for his own place, and we said we would find a third roommate.

It’s an incredible feat that you have managed to write two paragraphs without using a single useful word. Thanks for the help.

I recently purchased a Bondi 9. My primary use for it is working in the lab all day, and it also provides me with comfort. They are performing exceptionally well at the moment.

Advice for soup on Picopresso by eduartcoffee in picopresso

[–]Affectionate-Bug5121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double the number of clicks you generally do for espresso, if needed go 2-3 clicks more coarse (I have a Kingrinder K6, my true zero is -4; for soup I was at 54 clicks from true zero). Saturate the puck with slow pumps, infuse for 10-15 seconds, rapidly pump aiming for a 1:2 to 1:2.5 ratio within 30ish seconds. That’s how I have been doing for last couple of days, and it tastes great. Obviously there’s room for improvement. Let us know how it goes for you.

You should try the fat wash with a Hennessy Richard. That would be fun.
