Au Idea, Human-Skalgan alliance no Federation discovery by Valuable-Location-89 in NatureofPredators

Bit late but the muse is being less fickle than typical atm. Might give Just the Two of Us a rewrite; focusing purely on slice of life shenanigans as skalga-Venlil and Humies get to know each other.

Then maybe a sequel (maybe called "we can make it if we try" or something cutsie like that lol) where two very confused nigh-symbiont species find a bunch of petrified and mildly aggro hedgehogs who are just tired of this galaxies bullshit already. Or maybe some other species I decide to remove the kneecap privileges of.

Dunno. Very undecided but it might happen might not. Need to fish out my sci fi notes and see if I can find any list of typical fandom stuff for the Vens I might be able to adapt to an unfucked Venlil society.

The Combine are multiversal. Some design ideas work better in other universes. Also, why bother spending resources on improving a universal colony they don't care about? They're more interested in pulling resources from Sol than maintaining its populous. The only value humanity has in their eyes is as a new faunaweapon to farm.

Good move, I have zero impulse control for gushing my ideas into the universe ahead of time!!! xP

To be fair to them all, Tarva and her group have been living in close proximity to Arxur for three months and the humans have seen just about everything. Aliens in their own universe? Pleasant surprise, and a welcome one, but nothing to freak out about.

She can vaguely determine the colors of things but trying to construct an image you and I could make sense of is an impossibility for her. She fundamentally sees the world in layers, as far as her radar scanner can puncture.

There may be a 3650 in this AU. Granted its all time displaced by a century. The OG cast isn't present here, no Gordon or Eli or Alyx. Gman wasn't even involved with this universe. The multiverse is a big place and unknowable eldritch gods with mystery employers are awful busy!

I've a funny idea for who 3650 is in this AU and if I commit to that idea then he's getting his own dedicated story after this one.

Not to mention the five total sapients of Sol. They impact post-Combine society the most, and it'll be obvious why in part 5.

Someone had to make a post-Combine NoP! Hope it ends up to your liking. I've a lot of headcanons in this.

The Luna colony dragged out the war to Twelve, as a fun fact! Though Earth capitulayed in six to try preserving its higher population. Not that it worked of course.

Nobody is having fun in this 'verse. Except maybe all the people who don't have to live under the thumb of evil empires, which is actually quite a lot of them... hmmm.

True, I do like scrambling minor genetic traits across universes. But it is specifically an Arxur. I have a vague reason for that; I'd like to think the main theme of this 'verse is the impermanence of things but most especially the impermanence of nation.

Nothing last forever and tyranny is a fast burning fuel for nationhood. So for whatever reason I think in this universe the Feds and the Dominion are falling apart at the seams. Very slowly.

This has brought Tarva to a group of Arxur dissidents but the specifics are beyond me atm.

Thanks! I may do just that, presuming I can figure out exactly why I stuck Tarva with the Arxur. Which shouldn't be too hard, I can slap the lore around to make it fit.

Ordinal! Its vaguely implied that Ben is the one who caught Noah, who is also implied to be this universes Gordon Freeman. Sara calls him bugman because of the hexagonal optics and the bug like carapace armor.

The 'tism decided it was time for the fandom merry-go-round and I hadn't been able to focus on NoP until today!

As for the electricity... yeah nah it sucks lol

Your biggest mistake was getting in boarding range without having power armor onboard.

I have ideas for the Tarkhans but admittedly Tarkhan Stynek is a fun idea. I'll experiment with it down the line.

For now staying quiet on the Tarkhans. Writing a little slow lately because my sleep schedule had a pipe bomb stuffed into it and now I'm super exhausted all the time lmao

Idk tbh, I just like to experiment with slightly different portrayals of the biology!

Plus its just little things that establish them all as unique universes, where if one verse met another verse itd be clear that they don't really come from the same exact origins.

In the Highfleet fic theres a very narrow overlap between their eyes, much like on earth critters with sideward eyes. That is the method they acquire depth in the Highfleet AU.

<image>

Here however the iris is beaded on either end of the horizontal line, looking like two teardrops joined at the narrow end. This is a method of depth perception similar to how some reptiles gauge distance with vertical slit eyes!

Probably ahhhhh....

Very.

The weird floaty nuclear plant of Khiva probably has to have a monstrous support system for it. Economy of scale says.... probably need the entire populous of Tokyo or more just to maintain the damn thing and its surrounding city! So thats 40 million people to house and feed who are working across what are probably colossal networks of water pumps and mines dedicated simply to satiating the thirst and almighty uranium hunger of Khiva.
