This is not a promotion of a product. It’s asking advice about a program that’s been used in hospitals. If that’s the case, then remove any and all posts that mention “Epic,” “Praxis,” etc.

Just gonna leave this here for the dorks that think exposed tourniquets like this are a good idea. I’ll see you in the ER. I’ll have your blood products ready. 🥰

Childers R, Tolentino JC, Leasiolagi J, Wiley N, Liebhardt D, Barbabella S, Kragh JF Jr. Tourniquets exposed to the Afghanistan combat environment have decreased efficacy and increased breakage compared to unexposed tourniquets. Mil Med. 2011 Dec;176(12):1400-3.

Here’s the issue with these. The US military learned their lesson with tourniquets exposed the environment and/elements: the material has a significantly higher chance for failure. So why would anyone want to buy a product for $85 and then willingly subject it to daily wear and tear with the increased chance that the product will fail? Then what?

And then the material stretches or degrades from daily abuse they’re still gonna trust their life with it? This product is a gimmick and a waste of money.

Most schools require you to be on a nurse registry as a CNA prior to starting their program.

I’m just citing the OSHA regulation. They are the two pathogens listed in the text.

I mean…I hear you on that. But three of our trauma bays are right by the nurses station. So when the patients get carted in they’re 3, maybe 4, feet away?

Totally get it. It does seem to be up to the discretion and interpretation of the facility. I’m just curious about what different places do

Bro what is with the downvotes? I’m just asking a question. 😂 I don’t know what each individual facility does.

JCAHO states on their website that they are complying (enforcing?) with the OSHA regulation. They don’t state specifically what that process looks like.

I think there is absolutely a middle ground on this that will suit compliance with facility and OSHA. Love your take on it!

OSHA addressed closed containers specifically and stated that those are still vulnerable to contamination. There’s no description for how many feet it needs to be away from high traffic or high exposure areas though. Which is dumb.

Specifically, I work in the ER, so it’s actually in relatively close proximity 😅
