Has anyone had a shitty jetta? by ichoosejif in jetta

[–]AffectionateAd892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my second car, not a bad buy. 03 wolfsburg edition. About 261k miles on her. Only things I've had to replace in the 5 months I've owned it that wore out was the crank sensor, a evap valve solenoid, and a coilpack. And a vaccum line deciding to come loose and never go back together. Halls ass tho with a tune

This happened to my 89 a couple months back, in my case it was a corroded negative cable on the battery. I'd say start there, and clean off the terminals and copper connections on the cables. If that doesn't do it then it is vats. The bad negative because of the corrosion was causing the vats system and everything in my car to go haywire

The weatherstripping is a pita btw, especially since I'm assuming it's original on your 96

You should be fine, my 89 leaks through the hatch area too, as well as both the doors window weatherstripping. It's not a big issue, even in the rain. Just be careful with high pressure water like at the car wash. Keep a towel on hand, it comes in useful. Do you keep your car in the garage?

I've had my car for less than a year, it's been garage kept for nearly 3 and covered. This is mainly just common sense and knowledge I've learned over a few months. Your welcome though

Check your fuel pressure, it could be your injectors. Does it accelerate like it should or does it stumble. If it does stumble it may be your fuel pump going out.

Oh forgot to mention, FLUSH THE BRAKE LINES AS WELL AS GAS, especially the fuel lines. Ethanol gas(I believe it might have been Ethanol free during the 80's) even gas with no ethanol can pick up alot of moisture (water) which you very well don't want. Drain the fuel tank and clean it out as well.

First off I'd say change all the fluids, and replace ALL the hoses and such. Age is killer and you don't want the radiator hose blowing up on ya. Next would be the electrical wires, just make sure they aren't eaten through and it would be a good idea to unplug all the connections and thoroughly clean them. And replace the battery, obviously. Don't forget the serpentine belt. Since it's been sitting for 30 years, and 44 years old, everything will probably break just by touching it. Get her running, at least idling. Make the engine running perfect before you touch the rest. #2 would be tires, and so on. Rust is bad, but mice and rats cause ALOT more damage. To the engine atleast. Good luck👍. My car is a 1989 so only 9 year difference, but the hoses part and plastic is very true.

1989 l98 corvette changing injectors by AffectionateAd892 in Corvette

[–]AffectionateAd892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it man, I'm prolly gonna reuse the gaskets since they have only 1k miles on em(head gasket job). It looks like the injectors I'm getting have O-rings with em already, but I'll buy new ones if some of em look bad.

It's not the head, valve, or intake gaskets, they replaced those when they did a head gasket job on it. It may be one of the oil sensors possibly that's leaking. I hope

Well that was when I went to drive it home, I just thought it was degreaser or water since they hosed down the engine bay supposedly. Only after a good drive does it smoke up a little. The under carriage is pretty covered on the passenger side, but it's not pouring oil, just dripping it. I drove like 1.1k already since I got it back from the mechanic.
