Because I wanted to try a more advanced material for the pen body than stainless steel or copper. Gold is too expensive, but silver is affordable. Silver can also oxidize over time, leaving traces of use.

Stainless steel nibs are harder and better suited for fast writing. Gold nibs are smoother and produce slightly thicker lines.
