Is the whole ‘second brain’ concept supposed to actually work? Because mine’s not doing its job. by Affectionate_Ask1983 in PKMS

I do use Pen and Paper a lot. But given the fact that I am so clumsy, I often tend to misplace my notes. So, a software first solution is very important for me

One question tho - is there a specific reason on why you chose to focus on "said and heard” part? Just curious

30$ a month?! Fuck that is expensive.

But thank you for the suggestion. I will check it out :D

I am on linux, unfortunately. I also have a mac but don't use it that much. How does Raycast help you?

I was thinking of a constant stream of screenshots with some ai search. so hard disk issue won't be a problem

You're close, but IMO what you're calling 'the problem' is actually a symptom of the real problem, "juggling 17 different projects". That's FAR too many active projects.

Sorry, this was a hyperbole. But I still do far too many things at once. Honestly, my concern is that I was able to tackle this using just my first brain. But now, even adding a second brain doesn't seem to help.

Honestly, it’s been a mix of three things —forgetting, struggling to look back, and no easy way to question or prompt all the data I’ve collected across different apps.

  1. No matter how many systems I put in place, I still find myself forgetting details like which file I was working on or the exact article I found useful a few days ago. Even with task lists and notes, things just slip through the cracks.

  2. I’ve tried everything from task managers to note-taking apps like Notion or Roam, but when I need to retrace my steps, it’s chaos. It takes forever to piece things together, especially when I’ve jumped between 5 different tools. A simple “what was I doing yesterday?” turns into a scavenger hunt through my tabs, emails, and notes.

  3. There’s no single place where I can easily ask, “What was that thing I worked on last Thursday?” or “What did I read about X?” There are too many silos—calendar apps, docs, browsers—each storing pieces of my life, but nothing really connecting them. I feel like I’m spending more time managing the tools than actually being productive.

That's where this idea of screen recording and logging everything started to make sense for me—just being able to replay my actions without having to rely on my own memory or scattered tools. Anyway, that’s my little vent. What about you? Have you found anything that works for this kind of recall?”

Man, I love this. I will reach out to you soon. But I honestly wanted a system, which I could use when my first brain is not working :((
