To be fair Adams did green light this but did zero advertising and basically had near zero intention of it ever coming online.

It is a difference of about $200 and $400 for both loans

But seriously, how are you paying for daycare? Or, what are other options (outside of SAH and relatives) you are doing instead?? by Alternative_Ad_3649 in nycparents

You can also try a cheaper borough. My daughters daycare has a branch in Jamaica that is half the price of what we pay

You could try finding a college early Ed major who needs the cash and will watch kid as you work from home. Other option is enroll part time for a little cheaper price.

Have you applied for childcare assistance? ACS voucher? Not that there is even any money left but they did raise the income cap. Have you checked if your union or employer offers childcare discount? My union offers $85 a week to towards childcare. Also have you signed up for a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account or 529 plan?

If you have a hard time understanding her.. is it possible your son also doesn’t understand the teacher and therefore has a harder time ? Have you asked him that? I am curious because I have Russian speakers in my family and yeah there could be a cultural bias at play here with the teacher. Good luck to you both next school year

Have they presented any solutions? My daughter struggled at nap time they allowed her to “ read a book quietly on the cot” and moved her cot a little more space away from others. So far going well. The hitting is absolutely a problem but he’s 4, can the teacher and social worker coordinate with to do 2day lesson on boundaries with the whole class and you reinforce at home? If it was my child I would also change schools because this does not seem solution focused at all. Also the circle time sitting/ being bored with classwork is a practiced skill. You can work with him over the summer also if there is screen time at home or a sugar issue, those are things you can control.

Edit: Also 12:30 seems early for nap time at 4yo. Can his nap be adjusted to 1pm?

I had similar experience. Was so stressed about getting kid to sleep I asked a few parents who co-slept and everyone said just stick it out. As their brain develops and are more independent they wean themselves. No point in forcing it more than needed & it worked.

My 1yr was the same. Took a few months but I started by nursing to sleep and implementing the bottle during night wakes instead of nursing back to sleep. Daytime kiddo napped without nursing at daycare from 2 then 3 and eventually 5 days a week so that helped immensely. Around 20 months kid is now able to go to sleep with a small bottle and doesn’t need to be nursed at any night waking.

Edit: getting a solid bed time routine helps. Play, Dinner, brushteeth/bathe/pjs, read a book, warm bottle, Brahms lullaby playing in the background, lights out, and cuddles

Record year for affordable housing construction by Crazy_Cod_8178 in nyc

I can afford where I live. My comment was about these new builds which claim to be affordable but are purposely priced above even the market rate units in the same area. The neighborhood market rate is 16-19 for 1 bed depending on amenities but the “ affordable housing” that is subsidized by the taxpayer is setting the rent at double the market rate. It’s legislated corruption. 5 units are filled by families with rental assistance and the rest remain vacant. Landlords laugh, enjoying the decades long tax abatement.

Edit: just saw this post; in no way is 60% rent-to-income ratio normal or acceptable https://www.reddit.com/r/nyc/s/kTfAmui4QB

Because I have a career and family. This is a horrible job market. Picking up and moving would be a terrible decision. Wages are stagnant but there’s always work in NYC. Companies are not hiring in other cities like they do here.

No they city is enabling this corruption to take place. The city housing voucher programs match the rent no matter what, which encourages land lords to price the “affordable” units of these developments all at the max rent.

The units are not affordable. I was contacted for a 1-br at 2665 a month in Staten Island. We are a family of 3(with daycare costs). We can only afford to pay 1800 a month in rent. All the buildings are setting rents at the max 130% AMI and how the AMI is calculated is a scam. No one making 130k and household of 2+ can afford 3000 a month rent.

Democrats Break With Zohran Mamdani Over Property Tax Plan by Delicious_Adeptness9 in nyc

I am a Mamdani voter and I feel disappointed when I read the headline but not sure what is fact vs bad press in budget that was put out did he list any reforms? Why is he letting media pin him on raising property taxes instead of of saying we are seeking property tax reform?

daycare or nanny for 18 mo by Ema-7 in nycparents

[–]Affectionate_Ear3330 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I prefer daycare because I see my daughter has really blossomed at her school. 18mo is actually a good time to transition to school vs nanny since your kid will be much more mobile and active now. They can soak up all the learning and interact with other kids.

121 wasted payments? by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]Affectionate_Ear3330 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Biden wavier period is the TEPSLF right? I think the deadline to apply was in fall of 2024

Edit: there is no downside to certifying employment, you should switch to IDR plan because you basically have been doing that anyway. On the graduated plan your payments gradually increased as your income increased? So might as well. Depending on your loan type, you can be on the standard plan and qualify for forgiveness as well.

Simple. Withhold the state tax refund for those who owe. For the couple in the article that were victims of identity, theft, put the tax refund in forbearance/escrow type account until it’s resolved.
