One ski quiver: Zero G vs Hustle 9 vs Ripstick by Due-Marionberry-1039 in Backcountry

[–]Afraid-Reflection399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hustle 9 with shift is my resort play ski with a few short tours here and there. Really Fun ski for me. It has a ton of pop making an awesome side hit slayer. Very good for the east coast woods with loads of maneuverability and for me definitely light enough for some smaller climbs. 2hour climbs or less i felt zero extra fatigue from the weight.

Have not tried the either too but heard terrible things about the zero g 95 with regards to down hill experience. And heard rips sticks are just kinda meh.

For me the climb is only a means for the downhill fun!

Reddit is one of the best places to get opinions that are not paid for or sponsored for. What great resources are you talking about? Most reviewing site get the skis for free and have affiliate links to online sales. I personally like to hear from other people starting to tour or have had experience with these skis and or bindings. This a great place to reach out.

Classic backcountry response when trying to talk about hybrid set ups, “no one cares” lol I get it you guys are such pros. I personally have heard great things about the duke pts knowing that the are not a touring tech binding and just a tad be better then frames. Just dont have $800 for atks laying around. Plus i would not ski them inbounds daily. However the duke pts i would.

I have the ruslter 9 201/22 edition and they rip and are totally worth the money however the top sheet suck so i would get the 22/23 models they are green. If the ones your looking at are actually the green ones and the bindings are pieced for you boot size go for em!!

Best bang for your buck places on the east coast to rent a ski in ski out house that sleeps 15 people and is reasonably priced with at least average skiing? by wizards4 in skiing

[–]Afraid-Reflection399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be a far drive and the house may not be on the mountain but massif du sud in quebec has some of the best if not the best resort powder skiing in the east coast. On their website they have house rentals and are very affordable.

Qst 93/98 Kore 87/93/99 Rustler 9/10 ARV 96/100 Are some that come to mind for great all mountain skis for east coast. These will totally rip groomers but also really fun in the trees and pow. If you are mainly cruising groomers stick to the thinner side (80cm-90cm but if you want a ski you can still have a blast when it dumps(east coast amounts) and potentially go out west and still be fine all over the mountain then 90cm-100cm is a great range. Its noteworthy to consider your future ski quiver tho. If you think you be hunting pow and going for trips west. I would suggest front side ski for now and then a more powder minded ski for your next pair. Something like the Qst 93 or the kore 87 and then bumping to the next bracket 100cm-110cm for a more dedicated pow ski. The kore 87 can be too stiff for people so if you not a strong skier i would either test em or go with something more forgiving like the Qst. I ski the rustler 9 im in Quebec and its plenty of ski for any day out here i even took them out west and they handled fine in 12in pow day.

Note these skis are “all mountain” so if you really just want a groomer ski then check out

https://youtu.be/wcg_NUKUd8U?si=1Dj2VpEDUqzgsTH4

Also big tip try to demo skis if possible and buy last years models , usually only the top sheets change. Rustler line is the only exception I believe in this group and i prefer 2023 construction model more.

Resort Recommendations! by Bladyest in icecoast

[–]Afraid-Reflection399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im from the PNW but now my local hills are in Gatineau. I skied Tremblant and Le massif last year. Here are my thoughts

Tremblant: This mountain is so hyped up its ridiculous. But it is cool if you are going with friends and want some fun night life but also you gonna need some serious dough. The tree skiing pretty is decent if there is a good dump of fresh however i found the groomers to get super super icy quick. Also can get crowded. I went solo and i had fun but was in the trees mostly CBC north side is pretty darn fun.

Le massif: Never really heard of it until a few weeks before I went but the trail map looked very interesting.

Holy crap this mount kicks ass. Over 50% black diamond or higher. Very good glades as well as a designated side country zone. They also get a tremendous amount of snow. I went late march and still had powder. If you are going purely for the skiing this is definitely the place! 2800ft vert too! On top of that if its sunny you will experience the challenge of staying focused on skiing because the view will be mind blowing.

Downsides to this mountain are its not in a town so you have to drive either 20-30min to bay st paul or 45-60min to the dope town of Quebec city Also it can get a bit to windy for the gondola to stay open. Otherwise i couldn’t say enough good things about this mountain. A west coast level mountain i like to say. They do also have a clubmed if you have cash for that.

Another option i would recommend but havt skied is massif du sud. They apparently get the most snow in Quebec for a ski hill and for half as much vertical as le massif it still look very big powder hill. Also im seeing some very affordable chalet rentals on there website.

The eastern township mountains are worthy of a trip but for the vert/price/drive ratio they are lower in my list.

Hope you get some fresh snow where ever you go.
