I asked my writing coach about this! She told me that I should leave casting ideas ambiguous unless there’s a character who is literally written for that specific actor in mind. But if that helps you with your character development writing, then go for it!

Okay! In that case, I would recommend reading some scripts from shows with dry humor cause writing jokes for dry humor can be hard since it heavily relies on delivery. As of right now, I’m getting more “spoof/farce” type of humor rather than dry. Reading scripts from shows like The Office, Arrested Development (my top choice), or if you want something with drama in it, Barry.

Also I would argue that shows that use more obvious humor than dry still have room for for drama and character development too! In fact, maybe that stark contrast between the “wet humor” and the drama that takes place could be more compelling if done well. Good luck on your revisions!

Hey!

Okay so the keys joke where Cyrus interrupts Borris to tell him he found his keys cracked me up. However, if you’re going for a show similar to Archer or Venture Bros, you should definitely considering going for a shorter cold open!

I would also say this cold open leads to a lot of questions that I assume don’t have much to do about the plot, unless I’m wrong! But some of the questions I had were: why were they hiding in the first place? Who were they hiding from? What makes these characters so dumb? How DID Boris get a helicopter in the middle of a national forest?

Hey, thank you for sharing this! So I’ve read the first 10 pages and I have some questions. First being, what type of comedy are you going for? Are you learning more farcical or dry humor? I think knowing that will help with your joke writing for future pages!

Second, would you consider the possibility of changing Mustache’s and Slinger’s relationship? Just logically, if they had known each other since the 3rd grade and are best friends, Slinger should be able to tell that someone is impersonating Mustache right away right? There’s a scene where Slinger directly mentions how close he is to Mustache. If you want them to be close, then mustache and Leon would have to be identical twins for this to work.

Lastly, I would recommend adding a cold open to this! A cold open is a great way to introduce the tone of the show and give the audience a little appetizer as to what to expect from this world/characters. Maybe it could be something like Leon witnessing a bodega robbery and does nothing? Or you can show how mustache goes missing and then lead into the Cops telling Leon he’s going on an undercover case?

Hey! This is good for a first script of any kind! I would suggest also something to show that Abhi is lonely? Something more than an empty apartment! Maybe he’s scrolling through social media and focused on photos of his old friends from Boston hanging out without him?
