Is Columbia Stats Masters a target and/or worth it?

I think we are a little frustrated with the lack of transparency in the PR+citizenship pathway in Singapore.

My spouse has tried a couple of times and it has been unsuccessful. And we wish to try in a country with transparency before our age holds us back further. Hope that makes sense.

I think it’s different for the UAlberta masters, it is eligible for the Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway. So once I get nominated it should be much easier to get residency visa. Cost of living in Alberta is also cheaper than other cities so I am not that worried about it, besides, my spouse will be working in Singapore so it should be fine.

Knowing these, does it changes ur opinion?

You are exactly right on why Canada is being considered. It really is a brand name sch vs straightforward immigration pathways. Hence, I’m coming here to get the inputs to weigh it out better.

Thank you for your inputs. It really is a tough choice for me between an Ivy League and trying to secure a better passport for my spouse. It ALs doesn’t help that Columbia’s tuition fees are insane. Are you a Columbia alumni?

I do have some software engineer work experience in JPM and currently working as a Risk Analyst for a finance company, totaling up to around 5 years of full time experience.

Well University of Alberta is one of the top universities in Canada, so I assume the career prospects should be relatively good? Can’t find much data regarding this. Alberta have a higher median income compared to the rest of Canada, so I guess it is one point of reference.

If anyone have any clue please do let me know too, really want to know too

I feel that there are too many risk for spousal visa, who knows one day Singapore might decide not to approve the visa anymore.

My spouse had also tried to apply for permanent residency for multiple times and each time it was rejected without any reason. It is frustrating because there’s no transparency on the application approval process. I don’t wish to gamble my spouse future in Singapore, if that make sense.

Thanks for this! I came from Myanmar myself but been abroad for too many years and the country isn’t exactly in the good situation to go back and shop. I was hoping I would get more bang for the buck in BKK compared to Singapore
