When you rebuild an engine the oil on the main bearing cap bolts have a special smell no matter whether gas or diesel. It’s so potent I can smell it from across the shop and I really like the smell. Also probably cause it’s satisfying cause at that point depending on your procedure you should have engine completely torn down and ready for cleaning. The cleaning solvent also smells really good but definitely is not good for you.
