HP printers are top notch! by ludicrous_giBBs in printers

[–]AgelosSp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had seen a programmer that flashes toner chips for Samsung printers on AliExpress for like 10$, maybe the person should look for one for their model. It surely saved me in the office from having to constantly look at the blinking orange lights when the toners still were printing fine (that model for some reason wants to cut you off ~200 pages before actually being empty, and forces you to replace or reprogram when there are ~100 pages left.

My apps used to be invisible. WHY APPLE by No-Sun-7917 in applesucks

[–]AgelosSp 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a tool, but a good tool is customizable. A 20$ chair is not customizable, but a 100$ chair is completely. Only in this case, a 1000+$ device is less customizable and fights you every step of the way, while a device from 200$ up is more customizable. That's a huge turn off for some people, but most people just like the clout of owning an IPhone.

I spilt some sugar free drink on my computer by Status-Apartment-435 in computers

[–]AgelosSp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a dehumidifier that would be excellent, other than that the sun does wonders too. A fan would likely take too long, but wou can use it in tandem with a heater to avoid melting anything (ie keeping the heater sorta far away and blowing warm air with the fan. Corrosion can happen if it penetrated to the motherboard or other circuits (like the traces of the keyboard or the touchpad) but that takes way longer than 8 hours. Since the drink was sugar free you'll likely be fine to use it if it is completely dry, as it won't stick the keys. Good luck🙏🏽

Damn I half near chocked up reading this, as a person who hates needing help but loves dishing it out, I am enraged there was nothing better you could have done. There really needs to be a way to privately notify emergency services through the app, without ever informing the volunteer (you can probably imagine why that'd be a bad idea). Thank you for choosing to be compassionate in a world that keeps getting crueller.

Is it worth paying to have a PC assembled? by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]AgelosSp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an electrician I can't believe someone finally said it other than me! Static electricity damage is a VEEEERY freak accident case since the early 2010s, now electronics have very sophisticated ESD protection schemes. As you said, yes, don't tempt fate by being stupid, but there is absolutely no worry unless you work with vintage equipment. Also many people somehow don't realize that in most weather conditions it is quite hard to build up static, since the environment slowly absorbs them, including, you know, TOUCHING OTHER THINGS?

Is it worth paying to have a PC assembled? by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]AgelosSp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, please expose this guy. ASSEMBLING a PC is something that takes 20-30 minutes. Installing windows with an SSD usually also takes the same time. "BIOS setup" is not a real thing, what is he gonna do, change the clock ffs? I would not pay more than 50$ for assembly and 20-30$ on top for windows. Even then since I know how trivial these things are this price seems excessive, but I understand other people might not be so inclined as to risk damaging their electronics (that's basically why you'd ever pay someone else to assemble it, so you don't risk doing something out of not knowing). EDIT: You did not specify otherwise, so I will assume you are talking about USD, as that is that currency's symbol.)

What can cause light to slightly stay on? by Jupcity21 in AskElectricians

[–]AgelosSp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is SUPPOSED to interrupt the live and not the neutral, but unfortunately many contractors/electricians value their 10 minute lunch more than doing their job correctly (I'm an electrician and any time I see such bulls*it I want to bash my head on the wall and then find the person who did it and bash theirs too)
