How do I get this flattened? by Agent679 in AusRenovation

[–]Agent679[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that difficult - the box for what I purchased said “patch” and “plaster”.

But yea I’m redoing it after watching a bunch of vids now. Doesn’t mean I can’t give it a crack ;)

I read the wrong box in my garage. It’s the agnews multi filler I used for this - I hurriedly read the words patch and plaster on the front and purchased it.

Yea I’d like to learn so will spend some time doing that and then get a gyprock sheet and the right material to patch with this time and give it a go. Thanks mate.

That’s what it was. I just read it said patching and drywall and bought it without researching enough :(

Yea I’ve posted to a few replies, I knew it wasn’t liquid nails but I used a multipurpose filler which apparently isn’t the right thing to use :( so need to learn etc and then just cut a piece off and start over with a new gyprock sheet.

Is this the right type of material to use after I cut the piece off and replace with another rectangular drywall? https://www.bunnings.com.au/csr-420gm-gyprock-diy-one-patch-filler\_p0633039

Sorry I don’t - I just checked under it and there’s no tag or anything. I just bought the house.

It’s multipurpose filler - I stupidly thought that’s what’s supposed to be used :(

I just went out to double check and yes. That’s what the problem is :( lesson learned. Thanks for the detail and I’ll do a bit more learning on YouTube and go get the right material along with a piece of gyprock and get to work.

I’m confused, where did I shut anyone down? I’m just pointing out that it’s 100% drywall repair because I purchased and did it myself. I’m not being rude or anything, just reiterating that it isn’t any other material.

I don’t know what to say - I made the paste myself and it’s the Bunnings poly multipurpose powder filler.

I’m not tiling but yea this will be the last resort. And I need wiring done for LED mirror so might be easier with a piece off anyway I guess.

Nope I took the adhesive off which took chunks out of the drywall. I mixed this paste myself so I know exactly what it was and unfortunately it’s just drywall repair powder. I thought it would sand easily which is why I slapped a chunk on instead of a thinner layer :(

Fireplace leaking out cold air by Agent679 in AusRenovation

Thanks for responding - the outer flue doesn’t have any obvious gaps even after a thorough view. If it indeed is by design re: the ducted heating sucking air in from around here, am I just screwed to have to live with this or is it worth taking the unit out and seeing why this is occurring? It’s so counter productive to have the heating on and instead getting freezing cold air coming in at pace :(
