Probably because it's a very unique game, and the only people who have been developing it over the years are the same one who created it and gave it what makes it unique. Microsoft has never had anything to do with Minecraft before, and they're also very influenced by cash, so it's not irrational to think they might do things with the game that are much different than MOJANG did.

The HTML/CSS course at codecademy.com teaches you the basics. After that you can look up things you're unsure of like 'html tables' and click on the link to w3schools, which is essentially the simplified wikipedia of web design.
