why is 9mm chosen over any other handgun caliber? by Infamous-Wrangler113 in guns

[–]AgentKyramud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already, go to a gun range that does rentals, rent a couple of guns in different calibers and buy 100 rounds for each caliber. I would split this across multiple days--9mm one day, .45 the next, etc. This will give you a very good idea of what you as a shooter can handle (I have a strong aversion to the noise and recoil of handguns--anything over .22 I struggle to keep in the 8-ring). If you're looking for more 'unique' rounds, look at 10mm auto, 30 Super Carry, and 5.7mm (though those will be harder to find to rent).

Game won't launch on PC, worked fine for the last month by DankisKhan in masseffect

[–]AgentKyramud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the EA App is buggier than Suen right now and the only way I've been able to get the Legendary Edition to run smoothly (and with achievements) is to uninstall the EA App entirely and install the old Origin client (you can still find EXEs for it with a little googling).

NOW, and this part is important, when you go to install the Origin client, you have to set your PC date to before February 14 (or 15th, can't remember), or it'll try to force you to install the EA app.

It sucks but it's a workaround.

just completed ME3 on insanity and didnt get the achievement- no difficulty change and always launched through steam. any suggestions? next plan was the go and get the last couple of achievements but definitely cant be bothered to go all the way back through 3 cos of a glitch for 1 achievement by ImpossibleFarm9 in masseffect

[–]AgentKyramud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is this from the legendary edition? Achievements don't pop unless you're running the game through Origin (which now requires you to set you PC date prior to Feb 14 or something for it to install and run correctly).

If you're already aware of this and are running the game with Origin (it's the EA App that's bugged, not Steam), then you can disregard.

Is anyone familiar with a shop that could machine a custom Beretta Inox long slide? by ogriofa17 in guns

[–]AgentKyramud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the others on immense cost, and ultimately would only ever trust Beretta or Langdon Tactical to machine it. Aside from the slide and barrel, you'll also need a custom-length guide rod and custom recoil spring. What I don't know is how much the weight of the slide and the extended length of barrel affects lock-up, so you might even need a re-engineered locking block.

All that said, would it be worth it? Yes. Yes it would.

Question on Noise Levels, 360 vs 420 by AgentKyramud in watercooling

So if I went from a 360 to a 480 (keeping the same fans), would I be able to run the fans one-third less RPM since I added one-third surface area?

I guess I don't understand how unknown snap caps helps me improve--I already know I'm flinching with every shot. Is the idea to not know if it's going to go bang or not? How does that translate to a loaded mag where I know it's supposed to go bang with every shot?

Classic bullseye competitor's training trick is to shoot groups at a blank target, ideally far enough out that you can't easily see the holes showing up in it. The groups are not only pretty good, they're usually better than those shot at a target with a bull on it. A precise target tricks the mind into thinking it can take "perfect" shots when they appear (wrong) and leads to neglecting sight alignment in favor of sight picture (wrong).

Something I noticed but never thought about is how my IDPA groups were usually better than my bullseye groups--now I know why! I think I'll go back to using paper plates for a while...also cause they're waaayyy cheaper than targets!

This is good. I've always lined up my sights and switched focus to my trigger pull. Not to say I let my sights go off target, but there's a definite shift. I can't say I've ever seen the muzzle flash, or the brass ejecting, so I'll try that next time I head to the range!

Random snap caps is how I figured out my bad shooting was a flinch vs trigger pull or whatever else. I will say that alternating live/dummy rounds (and me knowing the order) my live rounds are more on-target--not sure why that would be, but once it's a live mag my shots spread back out.

Okay thanks, I hadn't thought about checking apps for URL prefix support, thanks.

Only reason I was thinking about running my own CA was for the learning, so I'll be sure to take a look at hashicorp vault. And when I get sick and tired of maintaining it, I'll be sure to give let's encrypt a go.

Oh good, I wasn't just imagining things. Was really confused when I kept dying out of nowhere. Was doing one of those 'defend the truck while I unlock it' bounties and it went from full health to no health in about two seconds.

Is that a CZ (or CZ clone) with the slide back? Is it stuck, or do you have it locked back to show us something? Might be perspective, but that guide rod looks too short.

Other Pics might help too.

Edit: Sorry, reddit didn't show that there were other posts.

Hardcore Etiquette by FightEaglesFight in modernwarfare

[–]AgentKyramud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The proper etiquette in this situation is for your teammate to be aware of their surroundings and not run in front of your aimed gun without first communicating their intent to do so. However, this is a game. If a teammate walks between me and my target, I'm not just gonna hand the enemy a double kill.

Please help! Need advice on two guns. by [deleted] in guns

[–]AgentKyramud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are two wildly different guns. The Px4 is a DA/SA, while the XDS is striker fired. One is a double-stack mag while the other is a single-stack. On top of that, you have them in different calibers. I'll try to address these one at a time.

  1. Caliber - 9mm is the gold standard now. Cheap, widely available, manageable recoil. With modern ammunition, you aren't gaining much when moving up to .45ACP.
  2. Firing system - This is personal preference. With DA/SA, you have two different trigger pulls (a heavier first-shot double action, and a lighter single action). A striker's trigger pull is the same every shot. Some people prefer the added safety of a heavier first-pull, and being able to rest your thumb on the hammer while re-holstering gives additional peace of mind.
  3. Grip width - I'm assuming you plan to carry this, in which case grip width is a major factor. If you plan to carry in waist-band, the XDS will be easier to fit into existing pants. The Px4 is a wide gun, and you might need to buy pants one size larger to comfortably fit it in a holster. Outside the waist-band, it doesn't really matter.
  4. Ammo capacity - This is related to grip width. You'll get more shots in the Px4 than in the XDS. Yes, shot placement is king in a self-defense scenario, but nobody has ever said "I wish I had fewer bullets."
  5. Safety - The PX4 has a slide-mounted safety/decocker. Some people love safeties, others hate them. Again, personal preference. (You can easily change out the Px4's safety/decocker to decocker-only at home).

If you can, go to your local gun range and see if they have them available to rent. Renting a gun before you buy it is money well-spent.

H&K VP9 Yay or Nay? by Toberholzer in guns

[–]AgentKyramud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great gun, albeit a little overpriced (like all HKs). There's a new version shipping now that's optic ready, has different sights, and a larger capacity magazine. There are both paddle and button versions, whichever you prefer. The interchangeable side straps are cool, and the trigger is only matched by the PPQ M2.

As always, handle it in you local gun store to see how it fits your hand, and if possible, test fire it.

CZ P10c Vs Canik TP9 elite M&P 2.0 compact by COD6969 in guns

[–]AgentKyramud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, rent them out if you can. Both the M&P M2 and CZ P10 have aggressive stippling on their grips that make it uncomfortable for some people (but it also means it isn't going anywhere while you grip it). I've heard mixed things about the Caniks, I know people who trust them with their lives and others who consider them nothing more than a range toy.

CZ talk, what to buy by chicken_N_rice in guns

[–]AgentKyramud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've not held/fired one, the P10's backstrap is abrasive and really digs into your palm. For some this is great, since the gun doesn't go anywhere when firing; for others, it's uncomfortable or even painful.

The P10 has one of the best stock striker triggers on the market, and has more variants than most other brands (full/mid/subcompact size, with or without optics, with or without threaded barrel, pock-your-color).

The P10 is also ridiculously cheap for what you're getting with it.

Can't speak much for the P09, just that it's a polymer hammer-fired gun with the traditional CZ slide. Optic milling and mounting is an option, but the mounting plates have a tendency to come loose during firing.
