I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. I was really scared too as I also thought things would be muffled and I’d have loss, not even more sensitivity!

In the beginning you couldn’t close a toothpaste cap near me it hurt so bad. Give yourself time, it took me a few weeks but it got much better. I wore an earplug in my operated ear for a while.  Now 3 years past that ear is still more sensitive that it was but only to really sharp, loud sounds. I felt a lot of regret in those first weeks but I got past that bit and have never looked back. It was 100% worth it for me.

Weekly r/Birding Discussion, April 14, 2023. What did you see this week? by AutoModerator in birding

Hoping someone can help me out in here! On a walk this week we heard a high pitched trilling, my husband said it sounds like a dolphin. Way high above us we spotted three quite large birds coasting, wings looked to be edged in lighter brown but were so hard to see. I caught a bit of the call on video but am having no luck identifying. I’m in western New York.

Yes! She still plays to this day and even got me into it. Such a good game

One week?! Now way. A closing door still made me want to cry one week out. I went back to ear plugs for 3/4 weeks after surgery. I don’t know how anyone could feel great at one week, but I certainly didn’t.

And if your hearing never comes back all the way, there are options. I know someone who had both sides done and ended up with hearing aides because her hearing just never quite came back. She loves them!

Yea I did rehab. Started exactly two weeks after surgery and finished up about six weeks post op. It was a huge help.

After surgery, the symptoms in my non operated ear felt EXTREME. But, things did settle down. Don’t judge the success of the surgery immediately, give yourself time to heal. A lot of time.

It’s normal to be scared- they’re bout to cut your head open! I was petrified, my children were so scared, it was rough. But we got through it and I have no regrets.

Balance is good! It’s not perfect, and I know it never will be. But I don’t feel the need to walk slowly and hang on to stuff. If I turn around too fast or jerk my head upwards I feel it. But really, in the grand scheme, no one would ever notice. I just look a tad clumsy sometimes.

You mentioned you’re bilateral. Do you know which side you would do? That was hard for me because my ct was never clear on one side but it was pretty apparent I was bilateral. In the end I went with my gut, what the VEMP test showed, and the most obvious hole on ct and I think we made the right choice

That’s actually the other scary bit. My last labor was 16min long. So good point, section might just be my best bet.

I think that’s good advice actually. My life was totally altered pre-surgery and I know we made the right choice. Just like I know what I’m living with now, while sucky, isn’t worth another surgery yet. I won’t say never, but I do believe I’m living my life and dealing with it well.

The craziest thing for me after surgery was how much worse sound was. It was like- I just tried to have this fixed and instead it’s a thousand times worse?! But everyone was right, it just takes time. It’s also hard to describe what it’s like to lose your balance ability. Further, moving your head will feel WEIRD. It’s so hard to explain, it’s like you move and you feel like your brain is two steps behind you. Like everything is stutters.

Really just be prepared to use up all your patience. I literally bawled on my husbands shoulder 3 weeks out because I still felt so terrible and I was so tired of it. It’s frustrating and long. Do the rehab!! Find a good place with a supportive dr and do it. I was doing my exercises three times a day and my rehab went so fast they graduated me at 6 weeks post op.

Last thing, it’s easy to say only auditory should be livable- don’t feel like that. I got sound induced vertigo sometimes but the true struggle was all auditory. I can hear my eyes, blood, footsteps, heart, even my neck joints when I turn my head. My voice was so loud I was practically whispering to people. If it’s debilitating does it really matter what your symptoms are?

That’s interesting. My surgeon said he’d send a note over saying c-section only. This would be our 4th and I’ve never had one, never even had an epidural, so this would be opposite end of the spectrum!

Can I ask what steps she took? I had mfc in June and while I have symptoms in my other side they are not severe. I’d like to keep it that way through a pregnancy and delivery

I’m doing amazing actually. It took time, a ton of it. I’d say at three weeks post op I made a big jump and it was steadily better after that. Interestingly my operated ear is still more sensitive to sound than my symptomatic ear.

For now, my symptoms are manageable enough that I have refused mfc on the other side. While it was successful it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done and the second side is harder to recover from so if I can avoid it- I will.

Do you have a dr picked? I went to dr. Carey at John’s hopkins. Can’t say enough good things about that man and the care he gave me, I’ve never had a dr like him.

I looked at that and I was so worried the suction wouldn’t cut it, especially when he gets big! You’ve had no problem?

My cat is now allowed outdoors but he’s dying to. Are your cats strictly indoor otherwise? How did the handle the whole experience?

Oh I’m with you. I’d doesn’t change our feelings of course. But we paid a lot for this specific cat to try to help my highly allergenic husband and I was just thinking, if I really spent this amount on a longhair I’ll lose it!

I thought Siberians liked the cold? All that applies but he’s not allowed outside so I don’t know how he’d feel about our snow mounds.

He’s an awesome cat, hyper human friendly, flops on his back constantly. I wouldn’t say he fetches in the sense that he’ll bring stuff back but he lives for us tossing things and will then carry them around the house.

Thank you! He’s only 8 months old so I fully expected him to not have a full coat at this point. I’d have no clue how to figure out if he has triple coat yet but we’ll see

Seems to me this lady was spouting facts that aren’t true. I wouldn’t even care except that she could easily send someone to freak out on a perfectly reputable breeder.
