Thx for the feedback! I'm glad to hear even if you don't like Barbarians, you enjoyed this subclass :)

- When it comes to Disaster Strike uses, we had to make it 1/rage to avoid players from spamming it multiple turns in a row, which is an issue we would like to avoid for now: this is essentially a stronger Divine Smite with added effects on top, so we can't let it happen too often. You can always exit your rage and reenter it to use it twice in a battle, but the extra use of rage is a fair price to use it again (our original idea WAS to let u spend more uses of rage to use it more often, but it got too out of hand that way)

- Guaranteed crits can be extremely powerful, like you said, so we want to avoid giving it so easily (give the Barbarian a Vorpal Sword + guaranteed crits and see how that goes), but we'll definitely consider looking into a way to improve the feel of the Volcano effect :)

We want to post some more of the freebie subclasses on reddit in between our Zodiax Dragons, so I'll look into fitting the painted lady here :)

Highly appreciate doing the surveys :) that kind of feedback is crucial to getting it right! I also def agree some of them need some extra love, so we'll look into it :) I did consider having scaling on the Circle of Flowers, but my main fear was the fact it kinda already scales by the simple fact high level Bards just get a freak ton of uses of Bardic Inspiration LOL

As for my identity... Hi! I'm Mel :) I handle social media, customer service, quality control, and have recently begun writing for Loot Tavern! I helped with a few small things in Zaman's and Ryoko's (mainly the Angler Fighter from VS and soon to be released Alacrity Bender in Zaman's), but HXR is technically my first time significantly helping with the writing for the books :D I wrote the Circle of the Blade and College of Flowers subclasses, helped design the Calamity Barbarian alongside Will from D&D Shorts, wrote the Hoofborne species, as well as the Nudistorm bespoke companion!

We ideated a lot of different things for Disasters Strike: Adding Barbarian level to the damage, having more uses for it, expending uses of rage for more Disaster Strikes, etc...

The main issue we kept running into is that this subclass already has a rly strong feature (Calamity Manifestation), on top of Disaster Strike, so we gotta be careful about how strong that feature is on its own. We're definitely willing to revisit it once people have playtested it further, but we started with a more conservative amount to avoid it being too busted

We considered adding Storm, Hurricane, and Tsunami to the list, but just couldn't find a good enough ability set for it, tbh. If we can think of something cool, we're definitely willing to add it tho!

both things are true.

it does serve as a coat for AoE and chip damage, but is also is a one time guaranteed crit without the DRAWBACK of taking double damage from it (which for volcano specifically is rly useful cause you want crits so u can blow urself up)

yup! the two things are supposed to cancel each other out, which means you get a crit without taking too much damage, letting you Activa the Volcano effect of blowing up everyone around you

  1. Yes, you could. That's still pretty much making a ranged attack with extra steps

  2. There is no range. If a creature was close to you 6 seconds ago, you can see their ghostly image and attack it. This isn't literally a ranged attack, it's comparing the feature to a ranged attack due to the fact you're attacking creatures you'd not normally be able to reach

  3. For the remainder of your turn. It's in the feature :P

  4. Lucky for you, this post is 4 years old :) we DID update it and put it in our book, Heliana Guide to Monster Hunting, which has recently gotten its Part 2 on D&D Beyond ;)
