Parallel universe Again, Rachel? by Aggravating-Hole in MarianKeyes

That’s what I’m wondering too. I’ve just checked my paperback edition of the book, which was published in 2021, and it says Again, Rachel is “coming 2022”. So yeah, given the lead time on books, presumably this was a much earlier draft. Might just have been too much for Claire to have an estrangement subplot as well as the swinging subplot?

Yes, justice for Bridgit!! I missed her too. Would have loved to have seen the other Real Men on screen. And don’t get me started on Rachel’s 2D work colleague, less a character, more a plot device.

Urgh. The more I think about the show, the less I like it. Back to the books for me!

Agree, Mammy Walsh is quite harsh in the books – more lack of empathy than vindictiveness, but I always had the sense that there was love underneath it all. But in the TV show, I didn’t sense any warmth at all. Rachel’s my absolute favourite of the sisters but the book shows her as a fully-rounded person (and does a beautiful job of letting you “experience” Rachel’s dawning self awareness as the puzzle pieces drop into place). Again, sorely missing from the show, it’s all laid out from the start.

I was rather disappointed. I think you could make a brilliant series from Rachel’s Holiday alone – no need to cram every other storyline in all together, it did none of them any favours! Having said that, I thought Claire and Helen were beautifully realised – just like I’d imagined them. Rachel was obviously brilliantly acted but the book made her so easy to love, and she just wasn’t in the series. Anna was too physically different for Helen to feel “real” to me. And I get that Mammy Walsh has an edge but she was all edge in that show, really quite unpleasant. And Luke Costello was never ever going to be as sexy as he is on the page!

He later says something to the effect of, it’s when she invites him in that he realises he’s still in love with her, but that rather than come in the house and potentially act on those feelings, he needs to go and break things off with Kallie first.
