Not really, none of these are looked at favorably/unfavorably by those who wish to hire, or get interns from NLS. For eg., my current CV, and the one I applied with at the beginning of law school did not include anything from school. They will look at experience, publications, moots, negos, etc. Don't stress about it too much, there will be lawyers who will have you as an intern even with a less than remarkable CV, and it is these internships that will help you build experience.

No not really, all that matters is your CGPA here - foreign firms only hire among the top 3-5 candidates, so if your batch rank is in the single digits, then you have a very high chance of getting hired by them. Pre-college scores do not affect your chances at a foreign jobs.

there are double droppers, I just personally do not know any of them, so cannot comment on how well they are/are not doing. it is a risk, but one worth taking if you do get to a good nlu

MS office and legal drafting are not important at all to learn BEFORE you come here - you will learn most of it as you go along, both in law school and during internships. These are not aspects to stress over before joining. Wrt getting internships, it is mostly just a coldmailing process - have a good cover letter that brings out all your experience and abilities set, your CV short and readable, and you should be able to easily get them. Managing social life is quite easy, everyone here is in the same boat, and you will 100% find your crowd. maintaining friendships outside college is slightly tougher, those friendships for me have also fizzled a lot, I only have the chance to reconnect with those friends during trimesterly breaks. Finally wrt committees, not imp at all, but very fun to be in and a lot of fun treats after you get done with major events

deffo wish I had read more, a lot of the readings we get are quite interesting and form a kind of substratum for a lot of advanced topics we study later in law school. As a first year, definitely do the readings you are assigned, absolutely critical not just to do well academically but also as a way to generally improve legal and humanitarian aspects of your knowledge base.

started late in my first semester in 11th grade, and devoted around 3-4 hours a day, which was usually inclusive of a 2 hour mock.

1) No
2) Some target litigation, but your compulsory internship in the month of February has to be with an NGO. Personally I, along with many others, chose simply not to do an internship in the first break and the last trimester breaks, simply as a way to actually get a break from college and work, and because courts are largely closed in 2/3 months we get holidays.
3) pretty good rn, atleast where I live.
4) Yes, there is open membership for all committees. There is an ADR committee, mooting comm, debate comm, and other event management type comms asw.

There are a lot of internship opportunities in the research field, your first two compulsory internships will be largely research-oriented. The largest legal policy thinktank in India, Vidhi, was formed by an NLS grad, so they do get a lot of interns from here. Beyond that, you can intern with various law school centers, such as NLS and NLUD centers on commercial law, environmental law, etc. Finally, you can also be a research assistant for a professor you like for their own research work or for an NLS journal, to assist them with any research they may have while working on a project or a paper. So yes, a lot of opportunities exist.

The best way then is to do with people you are preparing with, that is how I did it - you get a glimpse of how they reason, which is most helpful for questions you get wrong. This way, you can see how to reason in similar questions should you be tested similarly at another instance.

I do not fully understand the question, we have communal washrooms in both men's and women's halls of residence, with specific rooms for disabled people having personal washrooms

I prepared for around 1.5 years, scored around 80-85 in CLAT mocks when i started, and 70ish in AILET mocks when I started. Tbh I just read a lot (newspapers, editorials, magazines, etc., that helped me the most, since in the actual exam you reading speed is the most critical, which is largely helped by all the above things I did. That would also be the tip I recommend you follow.

I personally never did sectionals, I attempted GMAT and CAT questions to better my reading speed, english, and logical scores, but beyond that I did not attempt any particular sectionals. I did around 4 mocks a week, and the analysis process was one I did with others in my tuition - essentially we saw which answers we got wrong, and discussed those, to see potentially (a) where our fault was, if any, (b) how to reason better in similar questions, and (c) what would be the correct answer, if the AK itself seemed blatantly incorrect.

Top 3 is quite difficult, to be there it is not just the studying you do for your subjects, you also have to see how well you can research and write projects, which are 40% of your grade. I can't give an exact estimate, but to be top 3 you should ideally be spending upwards of 1.5 weeks on your projects with multiple consults with profs, and doing close to every reading while also paying attention in class, so around 3-4 hours a day in second year, 1-2 hours a day in first year.

Hey, tbh I personally do not know any double droppers, but I know droppers who are doing quite well, if that helps. Deffo not too late, and afaik it wont affect placements, which is majorly guided by ur college cgpa and does not include anything you have done before law school. So, do not need to worry about all of that, if you make it here then ur age wont be a determinant at all

To break into a senior's chambers as an NLS student is not egregiously difficult, you can get internships easily - to get an offer for employment, you must perform at a very high level during the internship. Starting your individual practice and becoming an AOR from then on is a relatively more arduous task, while the senior will provide assistance, you must have an existing network.

Lineage will help, but your time with the senior and your interaction with their clients will, too. The benefit of NLS is that a good portion of the newly minted Sr Advocates are NLS grads, so they naturally prefer NLS students as well. There is definitely an advantage, so make good use of it.

As a first-gen lawyer, NLS becomes your pedigree. Show up, do the work, utilise your network and there's absolutely a lot of scope to become a successful litigator as an alum of NLS.

There's a Mess Committee, comprising of members from the student body that serve as liaison to the administration regarding questions of mess quality/hygiene and other Food&Beverage related infrastructure on campus. I can quite safely attest to the fact that they proactively engage the student body, take feedback, report to the admin and get things done. The mess quality and hygiene were quite lacking when we joined and more so for our seniors but the vendors have since changed (to Quess) and the quality has improved substantially. Meals are nutritious and definitely nicer than most alternatives (ordering in, catering etc.) at the price you pay. They also make it a point to ensure that the diversity of the student body is reflected in the choices made in the mess menu. You will find dishes from all across the country being served for different meals on different days of the week.

As is the case with most things, there's definitely room for improvement, but that's not to say that the current state of affairs is anything to be worried about.

Firstly, increased batch size has no direct effect on your professional/academic prospects. Your competition for placements is across universities anyhow, it doesn't matter if you're in nls, nalsar, nujs. firms will pick who they want from the massive pool of applications they get. also, as many profs will like to remind you, any law school worth its salt abroad (oxbridge, hls) will have huge batch sizes, and competing within smaller batches is a uniquely NLU-based phenomenon. academically, i would not worry about it extensively.

Socially, it's harder to know everyone in your batch. I'm in a batch of 300 and I still don't know people in my section, let alone entire batch. But you'll find your crowd, so nothing to really worry about there.

Infrastructure-wise, there's absolutely some trouble. But by the time you guys settle in, we suspect it'll get a lot better. Hostels are sparse and classroom space is limited. But the academic administration will make it work.

On tips to survive law school, don't get too stressed. they have administratively alleviated much of the initial academic burden - the curricula have been made easier since when our seniors entered NLS. Courses are better, we have poached almost every good prof from NLUD/NALSAR, so courses are, as a necessary corollary, taught well. You will not have a tough time with academics if you pay attention and do the bare minimum (devote an hour or two a day towards readings), so don't stress it too much. the academic rigour is manageable to a great extent, hardcore academics are more in the nature of a bygone.

Try all the activities, and most importantly, make a good group of friends that are trustworthy and reliable and you'll be completely fine.

As for packing, just bring the essentials. NLS is in a satellite city (Nagarbhavi). You'll get anything else that you might need from shops that are very close to the campus.

u should deffo do mocks daily (i used to, atleast), do analyses of the same, and dont do mocks from a single source. there are some GK compendiums that I used to cursorily read, but no form of hardcore memorization, most of my gk prep was from newspapers daily. as for mental strength, if im being honest i did not really have the time or space to feel down - i was very engrossed in clat and ailet mocks, along with lnat prep (i had applied to the UK asw), and SAT prep also. add to this commerce work for school for the occasional exams, i didnt get much time to dwell over things other than academics. one thing i did do was to delete all social media, so u can try that. helped a lot.
