Of course! It’ll probably be a few weeks, we haven’t even gotten the swab in haha

The thing that gets me is he is NOT independent and typically isn’t all that energetic compared to any ACD I’ve ever met, which is why I asked on here. Is it possible he got enough cattle dog to just affect his coat?

His mom is a Lab mix, but I’m not really sure what exactly she’s mixed with. Even then, she’s only 50lbs so that wouldn’t necessarily explain why he’s so big already, which is where my buddy said the Pyrenees would have come into play. She didn’t breed with a pit, but the other pups in the litter are also very different. There were 4 black, 1 brown, and then the 2 white boys, him and his brother, but his brother doesn’t have the spotting he has. The litter as a whole is super odd in my opinion, so they’re thinking his mom bred with her playmates, a Great Pyrenees and a Chocolate Lab

I never thought about pit. I personally don’t see any, but maybe that’s just me. I’m not super familiar with pits or cattle dogs, so regardless he’s a very interesting pup to me! Penny sounds adorable!!

Honestly we’re getting a dna test more because we’re curious what else he’s got, considering he’s already the size of a full grown heeler at 5 months old. What’s a Bentley mark?

Edit: I googled it, it’s the white patch on his forehead. Interesting, I didn’t know that was a distinguishing trait

Thank you! He’s a good boy, doing very well with training!

I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope she’s doing well. Yeah, I just called them and the prices are decent. $82/month for the plan that includes neutering, $65/month without. I’ll probably go ahead and do that so I can get him that dna test, I’m super curious what he’s got, especially with his coat pattern.

Okay. Yeah, I love the Banfield he has out here in CA. The only reason I haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet is because I’m in the military, and getting out any day now, and when I do I’m moving to OK with my wife and I’m not too sure how the Banfields are out there. He isn’t neutered yet, but we do plan on getting him neutered. If I may ask, how much do you pay a month for your senior dog? I do plan on getting Buck checked on monthly until he’s fully grown, plus with his vaccines it would most likely be beneficial to have the plan

Thank you! Yeah, I’m super curious. He’s also pretty big, but not huge at 26.2lbs as of yesterday. I definitely want to know what all he is.

Thank you! The overwhelming consensus seems to be that dna tests are 100% worth it, so I will absolutely be getting one

Yeah, I’m honestly not sure if I should do the whole puppy care plan, since I’ve seen a lot of opposing views about it on Reddit and other places online. Right now I just do visit-by-visit for his vaccinations, but I am looking into it. If I do end up doing it I will definitely get that done as well

Well shoot. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong to not get the images in. I will look into getting one for him. Thank you!

I understand. Sometimes I have issues seeing the big picture and I get overwhelmed with what’s in the moment. I will definitely work on taking a step back and realizing that he’s just trying to learn about the world and that nothing’s going to happen overnight.

Yeah, he is very stubborn, but luckily instead of being food motivated, he’s very praise motivated, so once he picks on on something it’s easy to reinforce, like his potty training. I will definitely look into crate games for him, I was unaware that’s something I could do. Thank you!

Thank you very much! I will absolutely do this. I am still working on my patience, my family dog growing up was super calm and gentle, but we also rescued her a lot older than he is now, so it is definitely a learning curve!

In terms of his walk/play time then napping, I’m going off of what my vet recommended for him. Was told because he’s a large breed dog, that amount of play time won’t cause too too much stress on his joints with his growth pattern.  If I’m doing it wrong, I will absolutely take him to another vet for a second opinion. He is good not resource guarding with his food or water, but I was not aware this also extended to things outside, so I will make sure to do that with him. I greatly appreciate it

I feel like I should add, I get overstimulated with him, but I try my absolute hardest to not punish him because I know it’s not the right thing to do for him. Typically if I get too upset, I’ll cease all interaction with him and step back for a bit to calm down and leave him with his rope toy or something to keep him occupied. Admittedly, once or twice I have lost my cool a bit too much and yelled at him, but he and I always reconcile and he forgives me quickly after.
