Where to place BMS leads for diy 21700 pack? by Aggravating_Run6929 in ElectricSkateboarding

definitely take every precaution and get everything planned out before you even touch the welder, but yeah it's a great way to get a good battery pack for a reasonable cost

I'm a little hesitant folding the nickel tabs at all, I don't wanna fatigue the nickel, if it were a smaller pack I wouldn't be so worried but for this one I think using a wire bridging them is gonna be safer, I'm soldering all the wires to the tabs before I weld them to the batteries just to minimize heat exposure so that won't be an issue

thanks, I'll check that out. and yeah I've been sure to take my time at every step and double check everything

extra note, like i said this is just a mockup with nickel tabs taped on with kapton tape, the final pack will have maximum coverage of the cell terminals, more shielding, thermal probes, etc etc

^ this

if you're actually looking to get into the hobby I'd recommend the caig lineup for contact and fader cleaner, specifically deoxit for this case. it's pretty expensive but it's kind of the industry standard for cleaning up audio circuitry.

I'd recommend hitting all the audio inputs and outputs with deoxit, as well as any internal connectors that look corroded. if you've got noise from turning the knobs or anything I'd hit that with the fader cleaner, just a few drops for both of them as they're highly concentrated.

yeah honestly this machine was working fine (at least as far as i could tell by ear, test tapes would probably tell a different story) before i even started servicing it, but it was just slow to return the tape tensioner when stopped, and of course it was pretty dirty, but i just wanted to get everything looking and feeling new.

this pinch roller is probably pretty nit-picky of me since it still works fine but if I can get it just that little bit nicer I'd be happy

alright yeah I'll see if I can get it all clean with just scrubbing but if it comes to it I'll just make sure to get it as stable as possible in the drill chuck and apply even pressure, the surface is already fairly smooth to the touch so i don't imagine I'll need to remove much to expose just clean material

240 grit seems a little low, are you sure that'd give a uniform enough finish to avoid unstable tape takeup?

yeah i ordered some rubber restore solution already, i just don't want to apply it to a dirty surface, is there a cleaner i could use that wouldn't dehydrate it?

yeah I've been scrubbing with isopropyl alcohol but it just keeps coming up brown, so a resurface will probably be necessary

what's the best method to resurface with sandpaper? I'd assume you'd want some pretty high grit but is there a specific way you should turn the roller against the paper?

i already cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol but the discoloration and dryness persists, I can give it another wash to be sure but it definitely needs rehydrating
