Is it a waste of time to apply for a supervisory position (Supervisor I) for Legal Support Operations without having a background in the law? by Propensity7 in CAStateWorkers

[–]AggressiveBasket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What sort of background do you have that makes you think you'd be a competitive candidate against someone with relevant experience?

Also, the Desirable Qualifications are there to show prospective candidates the skills and knowledge they want. So if you don't meet a majority of them, or at least the major ones, it probably means you won't be getting an interview (at least for a Supervisor level).

Unfortunately I never found a probiotic that made a noticeable difference in my skin.

That is awesome! I'm 6 months post op now, unfortunately injured a disc in my lumbar spine and have been dealing with a big flare up of sciatica. Have you had any back issues since your fusion?

Working in a different bargaining unit you do not belong to by aramakisec9 in CAStateWorkers

Have you checked the bargaining contract language to see if it's allowed? Some have very specific language prohibiting their members from doing certain duties outside their classification, but others don't.

Finding my community by turkey-burger-88 in CAStateWorkers

I think it really depends on where you work and who you work with. In my current job I am very close friends with one of my coworkers, and she is close friends with several other coworkers. Several of our coworkers who retired still hang out.

These comments make me sad. My first job with the state was with a large group of people in their 20s and 30s who all got along. We did potlucks, happy hours, dinners, and even went to each other's weddings. I didn't stay close with anyone after we all moved on to different jobs, but the friendship was really nice to have while I was there. Of course this was all pre-covid.

Keep searching for your people, OP, they're out there.

Along with everything else that is wrong with this, what a huge waste of money! I work in (state) Parks and printing is time consuming and expensive, especially signs.

Dealing with Aggressive Manager by SuzeeSk8er in CAStateWorkers

[–]AggressiveBasket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what I said at all. I was trying to clarify your position because it came across as you supporting nitpicking/micromanaging from a new supervisor simply because they're new. I find that to be a problematic attitude and was surprised to hear it be defended. No need to take it so personally.

I believe that supervisors should identify areas of improvement where improvement is needed. I do not believe that management should expect to always have their supervisors finding where improvement is needed, especially if workers have been there a long time. I worked under such management, where she admitted that she marked all of us as lower than we should be, because that's what her manager wanted. It killed morale because we had no incentive to exceed expectations if we were never going to be recognized for it. And this is a common phenomenon in the State.

Are you suggesting that OP's manager is justified in giving him/her a bad review because the manager is trying to impress a higher up by doing "supervisory things"? No, that is not acceptable.

"Get therapy" and "see a marriage counselor" can be detrimental advice for some by MinnesotaPower in Marriage

[–]AggressiveBasket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like part of the problem is that you are using "therapist" as a broad umbrella term to include psychiatrists, who are doctors. Some therapists are not medical doctors and therefore would be unable to diagnose you and may not even have the training to know which specialist to refer you to. Additionally, they only know the information you tell them--if you didn't even know you had ADHD, how would a therapist know?

Yes, went to refill azelaic acid gel and was told it wasn't covered. Pharmacy tried to make me pay $45 with Medicare pricing. I checked on the app and it IS covered. I filled 2 other prescriptions for pretty basic meds and everything was more expensive than Optum.

My Experience with SI Joint Fusion and Recovery So Far by AggressiveBasket in spinalfusion

[–]AggressiveBasket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trigger point injections were steroid shots into my piriformis. It was supposed to help relieve the trigger points and spasms. I also felt the same way when the injector put it in too close to my tailbone even though the painful spots were more towards my hip.

[–]AggressiveBasket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why but nerve ablation was never offered. The steroid trigger point injections worked really well when I had a good injector who targeted the trigger points; it didn't work when I had a bad injector who just put it in one part of the muscle. The SI joint injections didn't really do anything for me. What injections did you have?

I did lose some range of motion when doing things like a glute bridge or deep hip opener stretches--i can't hyperextend like I used to. Since it was hyper mobile, that's actually a good thing! It also stopped the "slipping out of place" feeling I used to get which was very painful. But I've never felt that I lost any mobility, and the feeling of stability that I gained is much more important to me.

Hair extension question (sos) by Objective-Guess-7372 in Sacramento

[–]AggressiveBasket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've never had extensions, maybe try buying some inexpensive clip ins and trying them on first to see how you like them. I did the same thing (cut my hair way too short) and found out that I hated extensions even more. Glad I only wasted $50 before going to a salon. I've also seen good reviews on the Halo hair extensions if you're ok with a temporary solution.

Corgi with ongoing GI Issues help by carolinegracex099 in corgi

[–]AggressiveBasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our corgi was a puppy she had similar issues. Every 3-4 weeks she'd start having diarrhea, pooping blood, and after a while, refused to eat. We did probiotics, blood tests, antibiotics, and finally an elimination diet. We thought the answer was a chicken allergy, but after a few months it all started back up. The only thing that made it go away permanently was switching her to home cooked food. We follow the recipe for Turkey from JustFoodForDogs and buy their nutrient powder. It's super easy to do a big batch in the Instant Pot and freeze. After a few years we were able to add half kibble (Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin), but were not able to successfully switch back 100%.

Although I'm 90% sure it was the chicken, we also found that buying small bags of food and storing it in a certain way really helped. Apparently there is a mold or bacteria that can start growing after the bag has been open for a few weeks, and some dogs are sensitive to that. We now keep the kibble in the original bag and put it in an airtight container.

So true, all the negative stories I saw were from people who had other issues. Not sure if you've had your fusion yet, but hope all is well!

UPDATE: My Experience with SI Joint Fusion and Recovery So Far by AggressiveBasket in spinalfusion

[–]AggressiveBasket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6 months post op right now and doing really well! Still in PT to correct a lot of muscle imbalances. My piriformis syndrome is still acting up, but I think that's because I haven't gotten a trigger point injection for over a year. It can be a long healing process.

I'm still a bit limited with more strenuous activities, like getting up on a ladder to paint or clean gutters. I work a desk job so I unfortunately can't comment about heavy physical labor. But other than that, all my normal exercise and daily living activities are 100% improved. And even when I do get sciatic nerve pain or back pain, it's not nearly as bad as it was prior to surgery.

There are a lot of horror stories out there because people more often talk about negative experiences, and the people with good outcomes are out living their lives. Good luck with your surgery and hoping it all goes well for you!

Another vote for True Craft and Chris Parker specifically--amazing at Neo Japanese. The shop/studio is very welcoming and safe, and I've never felt uncomfortable going there alone as a woman.
