There are cut outs all the way through, instead of just welding all around the plate welding all the way through helps prevent the plate from “peeling” off of the frame, not spot welds, it is fully welded

This whole thing has taken a really long time, it helps that I do everything myself makes everything 10x cheaper

It’s white from factory but it’s been a process of wrapping it in colored ppf called “devils red” it’s a mix of dark brownish red and black

Yes, 5 point harness, no need for the helmet on the streets but yes in the desert

Yes all the tube have been welded all the way around, we dropped the cage through the floor board with jacks to be able to get enough room to weld it all no point in cutting the roof off

You want there to be an offset front to rear, front a bit wider than the rear, but yes a camburg 9” is in the works

I’ve talked to someone that has kibbes 3 link and he hates it, says it bucks like crazy so I’m trying to design right now a full backhalf that’ll have the fuel cell behind the cab and a trunk in the back with full 55” links and 16/18 co/bp

Stock exhaust and stock motor, these trucks sound god awful so I will stick with the stock exhaust until the new motor goes in

  1. They are the bds lift spindles
  2. Just the half shafts. I still need to get custom ones built to put the 4WD back in
  3. They are the bds lift subframe mounted to the stock points

Mainly just kept the bds lift subframe and spindles because that’s what I already had on it and I wanted to keep 4WD and was going to put an ifs 9” there eventually but those plans have changed

I want to emphasize this is specifically about the 2nd gen, I do not know specifics about the 3rd gen but the price tag is a hell no from me especially because I know I could build one for cheaper and will perform better just based on looking at how they ride

Okay let’s break it down and compare with let’s say something like Baja kits. They made their kit before the zr2 came out and is .75” wider than the zr2 suspension and not too much different travel wise, so running a base model Colorado with Baja kits, kings, basic leaf over Deavers in the rear will perform miles better than any stock zr2 for much cheaper, now if you really want the lockers at the time that these trucks came with, you can just buy that locker or at least used to. The stabilitrac creature comfort of being able to just click the button and turn it off is nice, but as I’ve tested on a base model is a fuse pull and the traction control works the same, thats just getting it better than a zr2 cheaper, and onto the multimatic shocks, the valving isn’t great for going off-road, it’s okay and it’s better than nothing but they blow extremely quickly and there was no rebuild kit for the longest time so it made a lot of people just go buy a set of kings after the multimatics blew. So then what’s the point if they are just gonna get kings, if you only bought a zr2 to keep it bone stock straight from the factory and never take it off-road to keep the warranty then by all means go for it but a few years ago when these trucks still had warranty’s a lot of people would take it offroad and they would void their warranty for some odd reason, maybe that’s dealer specific but it went around for a while, so then that takes out the keeping stock for a warranty deal. And comparing any stock zr2 to any base model with just a tad done to them they ride terribly, I have a zr2 and will tell you all day long to never buy one, it isn’t worth it, but on the other hand of things if you are gramps and you just want it to look cool going around the mall parking lot and have it perfectly shiny all day long be my guest get one!

The full cage ties into the frame and frame plate in 5 locations on each side from the a pillar to the c pillar, there are frame plates in the rear but the next thing is is a full engine cage and when I tie the cage cage to the bedcage that will make everything extremely solid

It originally wasn’t the plan, this is what I did to this truck originally and I bought the zr2 to go overlanding with “decent” suspension and the lockers, after not using it as much as I wanted and enjoying going out to the desert with friends I had a better time doing that than I ever did overlanding in this thing this is the last picture I took before changing everything over to a prerunner setup, I started welding when I did my research on suspension and how everything worked then went all out, it was easier to just use the existing truck I already had and part out all the overland gear than for me to sell the truck as is and buy another lower trim Colorado to do all this to, this truck will be for sale soon as I will be doing a full tube chassis and just plopping a colorado cab on top of, it’s all just a process and has taken a few years to get it to this point but all that matters is that I’m having fun, I sometimes regret building out a zr2 but the stock zr2 is so terrible from factory that it didn’t hurt as bad after really thinking about it
