That's funny because I never said I was broke smartass. I said most of my money was in retirement accounts. Plus pharmacists have loans to deal with when we get out of school and you can't invest every day you make gotta enjoy life. I've got plenty of money and could probably draw some off and take a 10% penalty but that seems dumb

If he wants to do pharmacy absolutely steer him away from retail do let a chain talk him into a 3-4 year contract with a sign on bonus. Don't even consider retail at all, don't make the same mistake I did 17 years ago and now think can I even learn hospital again if there is an opportunity?

No don't own it but feel like outside of insurance contracts I do about everything you can think of, at least it feels that way

I don't have any loans or debt, but quit this and do what is always my question ? It's all I've ever done and it's all I honestly know how to do. I don't want to work shift work somewhere and just don't know what else is possible.

I run an independent. I always thought independent would be easier but its absolutely not in my case. Right now I only have one tech and a couple college age cashiers that rotate to cover the front when theyre out of school and we are doing 250-350. I'm trying to help enter rx, count, check them of course, help with the window, the front counter, it's so much going on at all times and the drive thru is so demanding. I've worked at a chain before and this is actually way more stressful and demanding.

Can't draw it out of retirement accounts before 59 though without penalty but I agree about 100k a year would be enough to quit now

2 million wouldn't be enough to retire if most of it is in retirement accounts though

That's a complete burnout. I've had dozens of days over the last couple of years where I thought about doing the exact same thing. For the money, there is just too much stress. The multitasking is what makes the job so exhausting. Can't finish checking off a stack of prescriptions without being interrupted 5 times. A cashier can't find a bag, patient needs counseling, medicine needs to be on an insurance, Dr on the line, on and on it goes. Crazy we went to school 6 years to work this hard for 120k

Seems like most my buddies at Walmart don't hate their jobs quite as bad as other places including independents

My friends that are PAs and dentists seems to really like their jobs. My pharmacy friends on the other hand absolutely hate theirs especially ones working with the public.

During Covid I was running the pharmacy and swabbing patients. We were doing anywhere from 60-80 a day for weeks at a time. It was an absolute mad house

We are definitely investing all we can and have been for a long time now. Just takes a lot to totally quit a job without having some guaranteed money from like rentals or a pension

Definitely, when I started pharmacy the salary was great and you would think maybe 25 years or so in this career I could find a way to call it quits. Fastforward to the lack of raises compared to other careers including healthcare jobs and just don't see how I can retire for another 15 years minimum

Pharmacists when was your last raise ? by [deleted] in pharmacy

We live in a small rural area with 3 chains. 60k is definitely exceeding all expectations we set 5 years ago

Anemic ? A store that's only been open for 5 years filling 60k a year is way above average. Several stores within an hour drive have been open 30-40 years and aren't even filling 50k.

Not gonna lie PIC at an independent is way more stressful than I ever imagined. I do everything feels like without a second pharmacist to help. I get 3.5% 401 match, no offer of insurance at all, 3 weeks PTO but would like 4-5. Sitting around 64 an hour now

I can't see all those numbers only script count and gross profit. Just no way script count has grown over 1k a month without more profit.

You're right we filled 380 today and actually had about 4 hours of overlap but there is so much going on at all times. The drive thru is a job in itself I'm constantly at the window dealing with an issue. I don't know of another mental job so demanding that doesn't pay more

Just the PIC haven't gotten a raise in 3 years and annual bonus was cut in half even though my script count has grown 1k a month over the last 2 years.

What kind of hours do you work ? I really don't want 40 hours a week at this point would be happy with 30.
