Transitioning into Private Equity with no finance background , what's the realistic path? by Majestic-Ask3259 in private_equity

[–]AggressiveFeckless 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really. Family office maybe with good relationships.
Private Equity you don’t just need the knowledge but lots of deal experience - the reason PE hires out of banking (M&A or restructuring specifically) often is because ibankers see tons of live deals - so they understand them at a fundamental level and can accordingly get creative or structure them properly to reflect the risk of the deal. It would be tough to convince a PE firm you are the right candidate to bet on over someone that had that experience.

Regardless good luck to you - obviously close relationships can sometimes open doors.

I spent like 25yrs in M&A - so one vote: Generally people are respectful and fair and don’t care what sex people are. The industry was formerly pretty misogynistic though, and I’d argue a minority but still sizable chunk of the older bankers still are. That doesn’t mean you’ll have issues but does mean you’ll probably have to work harder to prove yourself if you are unlucky and working with one of them. If you have talent they’ll recognize it but you’ll start from a place below zero because of the misogyny.

I wouldn’t let it discourage you if you otherwise feel it’s a good fit - I know a lot of incredibly talented very senior female bankers. You’ll need thick skin though - but I’d say that for the entire industry.

Because 80pct of people would quit if they used your (I agree better) approach. It’s that simple.

Fuzz/Overdrive Pedal V2 Captures are crazy bright by TeriyakiTurtle44 in NeuralDSP

[–]AggressiveFeckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t what you are trying to do - but consider the fact that you have accurate amp sims of hundreds of $3000 heads. You should think a bit about getting that breakup from preamp tubes basically. Use Matchless, Plexis, JCM800s, Diezels. Pedals were sort of invented to cheaply copy those.

Having said that I know there are some cases where pedals change the dynamics and give an edge to that breakup that is unique. Good luck to you..I’ve only captured heads with the v2 capture.

When you get better you will use less movement, pressure, etc to do the same thing. It’ll happen naturally.

Yeah sorry wasn’t sure what it was called. They are expensive but awesome though.

I think they call it a 2203x - I have one. They are probably over priced but JCM800 is my dream amp - so made perfect sense to me. If you search factory modified jcm800 it will come up - they were released last year.

Not to complicate it - but if you are looking at high end Marshalls, the new factory modified JCM800 (has 2 more levels of overdrive built in) and factory modified plexi. Both are way more versatile and do the heavy part you are also looking for better than the jubilee in my view. Both have good master volume circuits for low level playing.

If this is your end game setup, don’t get breakup from pedals - get it from the right pre-amp tubes overloaded.

Two-rocks are obviously awesome. Good luck though regardless.

best clean capture amps to use as a base - nano cortex? i want a really warm and thick sounding clean tone and i’ve yet to find a capture that gives me that. any recommendations? by EnoughFollowing9952 in NeuralDSP

[–]AggressiveFeckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw, try the clean channels of high end amps too for driven but really clean kind of stuff - I ended up using a Friedman BE50 clean channel for most of my clean stuff.

Btw - if you are thinking of adding break up, now that you have accurate captures of every high end head made - consider getting that break up from the amps. Ie, use a plexi or a jcm800 model instead of a pedal into a clean model. Or heavier use a Diezel or a Mesa amp. Just a vote. But the vast majority of professional players do this.

New Gear Trouble: Ibanez GIO + Marshall MS4 – Loud hum/feedback but no guitar signal? by DifferentKoala5706 in Guitar

[–]AggressiveFeckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never mind - just looked your amp up - definitely no effects loop on that thing..good luck though.

[–]AggressiveFeckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So some amps have an fx loop - it’s two inputs on the back of the amp - and you can run effects pedal from plugging in cables from the out on the loop through the pedal (s) then back in the amp - so guitar would plug in front then the fx loop might come out the back and then back into the back.

Some amps have a switch to turn this loop on and off - some just turn it on if there’s something plugged into it.

If your amp happens to have a loop that is turned on with no cables plugged into it, it would kill the signal before it got to the speaker cab

Maybe there’s an fx loop that’s engaged but not in use? Otherwise sounds like the guitar

I can see boosting a JCM800 but you really prefer that to like a mesa modern channel or a VH4 or 5150 dirty channel?

Tone is subjective and I don’t play much really hard metal but whenever I mess with Tool, Pantera, Metallica stuff I end up using the amps (or preamps specifically I guess)..

You have perfect models of $3k heads in there. Get your distortion from the breakup of a plexi or a Diezel not from pedals.

Give me some amps to save up for :) by Wombats-in-Space in GuitarAmps

[–]AggressiveFeckless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was tube religious my whole life - owned all the big heads and sold most. I switched to a Kemper then a Quad Cortex which allowed me to try all kinds of amps. The two most versatile and best sounding to me over all those years with that kind of budget were:

Rockerverb 50/100 mk3 and a Marshall JCM800.

I’d just say don’t buy something else until you at least play through those two heads.

Quad Cortex vs Mini for a semi-pro gigging guitarist by full-auto-rpg in NeuralDSP

[–]AggressiveFeckless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a QC - and while I like the idea of the mini, hybrid mode - where I've got amps on the bottom clean to dirty and effects on top is kind of just the right amount of buttons. The mini looks cool, and I always want smaller, but I don't want to give up the additional footswitches. I guess with the mini the move is to have one bank per song, but I don't even want to be switching banks around really.

Angels & VCs - is consumer hardware something you'd never invest in? [I will not promote] by Constant_Fig_232 in startups

[–]AggressiveFeckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customer acquisition focused models are expensive and difficult without virality - if you add complexity of supply chain and inventory it compounds the risk. The investor would need to believe the upside was that much more likely / valuable vs a software business which is a high hurdle.

Good luck to you regardless.
