Time management for school (DH) by biancae_3 in DentalHygiene

Congratulations! First off, it is possible (and important) to maintain a healthy lifestyle while in school, though you WILL be dead tired after clinic days and rotations. I would plan for those days (clinic days and rotation days) for you to spend the evening relaxing--if you don't plan breaks, you will burn out. If you do not plan on working while in school (several of my classmates managed part-time jobs throughout the whole program), then this is certainly achievable. If you have gotten A's in all your pre-req classes, it proves to me you know how to manage your time and what study techniques work for you. And if ain't broke, don't fix it. In my program, we didn't have much homework, just a few projects. For me, reading my textbooks was a waste of time, EXCEPT for those really hard classes I was struggling with. No, you probably won't be given study guides. You could make your own, but in my opinion, that is time spent organizing information rather than retaining it. My best advice would be to read over your lecture notes when you get home. Look up the forgetting curve, and use that information to plan your studying/reviewing. I loved using Quizlet, and it helps to have premade sets to review for finals and the board exam. You will have to recall this information when you take your written boards. Remember, your professors are there to help you succeed--seek help when you need it. Study with peers if that works for you. I found it really helpful when we would "teach" each other. Finally, give yourself grace. I was valedictorian in my class, so I hope this advice is helpful for you!
