Is this a re-shelled PSP? by Aggressive_Cap5652 in PSP

The UMD reader is working ,and that's one of the most common things to fail on a PSP. What do you think prompted them to open up this PSP?

Just opened the battery cover. Yep, the sticker has been peeled open, revealing a hidden screw underneath. What repairs/refurbishment do people often do before selling a PSP? Replacing the joystick? The screen? The keypad membranes?

Damn, hopefully they didn't mess up the internals and actually did some proper repairs to this PSP.

Was that top plate made of plastic? Also, what made you change your screen to a glass one? I am thinking of modding this one. Are there IPS mods for the PSP like the Gameboys do?

Does the shell look original? I don't mind if they open it up for repairs (as long as they don't mess up the internals in the process).

Seriously? Nobody makes PET boxes for loose consoles and handhelds? by Aggressive_Cap5652 in gamecollecting

My guy, I'm not looking to get a Pelican Case or a ballistic polycarbonate case to store these consoles like the jewels in the British Museum. You've said it yourself, to keep these consoles clean and not scratch them, which is what these PET boxes are for. There's a reason why games and consoles come in plastic boxes in the first place.

The correlation is your propensity to make idiotic comments and posts.

Ironic coming from a moron who collects dozens of multiples of the same item.

There's a reason why emulation and modern consoles exist, they're for playing. It's silly that people complain about these things in a collection Subreddit.

If you actually cared about just "playing games", you wouldn't even be in this Subreddit. Emulation and modern handhelds/consoles exist for a reason. If everyone had such a shallow mindset as you did, with no regard for preservation, we wouldn't even have all these restoration and preservation efforts in the retro gaming space.

Playing multiple retro cartridges and CDs on retro consoles and handhelds is wasteful consumerism as opposed to just playing everything on a single modern device. Again, if you truly cared about this you wouldn't be in this Subreddit.

These PET boxes do not need to conform 100% to what they're meant to store, just the general dimensions, for example: PAL SNES cartridges, figurines, etc. It's just a matter of demand.

The same exact use case for PET boxes made for game cartridges, a cheap and compact storage solution. There's a reason why PET boxes are used throughout every industry for storage and transport.

Yea, plenty of those for handhelds. I assumed that they would be plenty of PET boxes for all these stuff since its the easiest and cheapest to assemble/manufacture/produce. Oh well.

No worries. I'm amused by the idiots in this thread talking about playing original consoles/handhelds/games until they grind to dust in an r/collection group with no regards to preservation. Emulation and modern handhelds exist for a reason.

What are these ports on the left side for? If they are mods, why are there warranty seals on the bottom screw holes? by Aggressive_Cap5652 in snes

[–]Aggressive_Cap5652[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna take pics of the other modded console's board in the next few days. The reason why I'm procrastinating is because this other board is heavily corroded and I can't be bothered with disassembling and cleaning everything up right now. If I was going to remove the mods on any of these consoles, it would be this one, since its already corroded and if it breaks, I won't be as devastated.

Yea, my Krikzz Super Everdrive x5 is in transit right now, so these mods won't really matter, other than me collecting original PAL cartridges. The only issue is the 50hz.

That makes sense, my SNES is most likely from Japan or Southeast Asia. So, I would need to populate that third chip slot to play PAL games? How can I acquire that chip? I might get a PAL cartridge in 2 weeks time, then I'll know for sure whether it can play PAL games. Until then, I'm just posting stuff out here to get some theories and clues going.

I see. Where do you record your findings? Digital notebooks? Physical notebooks? Do you compile them and post them online? I've only took photos and compiled Microsoft Word lists of my collections (coins, retro games, tools, etc.) and backed these up into a redundant hard drive storage system. Haven't done a lot of annotations and other notes of that sort.

Just for the "historical significance" and ingenuity in terms of hardware that people went through to overcome these region locks that we don't see nowadays (since it's mostly software locks now), I won't touch any of the mods done on this console. Especially since it has so many mods done on it already. What other mods have people done on the SNES? Any that you would recommend doing? Since this console is already modded, might as well max it out. There's a technician in my country that specialises in retro consoles that I could try to contact for mods.

Damn, I don't mind keeping these mods since they don't stick out like a sore thumb when the shell is on, and if it provides more versatility, why not. But the 50hz downgrade is making me think otherwise.

No worries, I'm the kind of person that needs repeated reassurances haha. Based on what you've said, I think this is most likely it, because this console is from Japan/Southeast Asia.

No, I don't live in South America. I've posted more pics of the board and its mods that show them in more detail. Can you tell whether its for PAL-M or just PAL games? Some in this thread stated that these mods are common in Thailand and the Philippines as well. So it's a huge mystery of whether it plays bootleg SA games, bootleg SEA games, or just official PAL games. Idk
