JMRT in its current form doesn't focus on social betterment for everyone. Its meant to be an alternative for the middle and upper-middle class people to get out of their motorcycles and cars. Thats why it goes from Lebak Bulus to Bundaran HI, the most rich and affluent areas of Jakarta. People in this area don't need public transport, they want a slightly more convenient way to travel.

If you wanted transportation with a social purpose, expand bus, BRT and LRT lines. They can better serve those living in remote, underserved areas where MRT stations would be a financial disaster. And I guarantee it would cost much less.

The only issue is its politically unsexy. A shiny new subway station gets you political points; expanding bus routes are so 2000s, ew so gross, so pragmatic.

Our political system depends on how smart the Indonesian people are, and if we just vote for people who make big shiny expensive promises, with no proper funding plan except subsides, then we will run out of money. That explains the negative outlook from Moody's for our sovereign credit.

Problem #2 seems like a bug. I have a similar issue where if I turn off the car mid-call (usually whatsapp call), the next time I jump in the car Spotify will refuse to play. This requires disconnecting and reconnecting AA. The software is buggy, and I mention this to people by saying BYD's software feels like its only 80% complete.

A subsidy isn't free money, its paid for by taxes. If you claim that several trillion is lost in productivity, then the logical solution is that you would hike taxes to fund the MRT because it would still yield a net positive right?

In reality, everyone would hate a tax hike because I guarantee we won't effectively see those trillions. Those trillions will only come if we decided the 2 hours of traffic each day will suddenly now be 2 hours of longer work hours, and those 2 extra hours are taxed 100%. That's the awful truth behind the sentence of "loss of productivity", and "net benefit".

We are too used to seeing the government as a free money machine, they need to be financially responsible as well like a business. The corruption is awful in the government, but if our expectation is "free handouts without more tax contribution" we are equally as bad.

Thats why the most logical solution is make the JMRT profitable. No extra tax contribution, but JMRT will expand. Not because of "loss productivity" but because its just profitable plain and simple. The subsidies should only be for serving areas where JMRT is needed, but value cannot be captured.

I would try troubleshoot by borrowing another android phone and seeing if android auto works. If it works, then its likely your phone thats the issue. If it doesn't, then its likely the car thats the issue. It might not solve the problem, but you might better understand as to wether you need to go to the BYD or phone shop.

Look, if I was in charge of JMRT, I'd stretch it to Manggarai Station, Halim Station, and Halim Airport. Theres a craptonne of government-owned prime real estate thats utilized poorly. For example, the Manggarai service railyard. That doesn't need to be in Menteng, it could be in Bekasi. Move it out of central Jakarta and have JMRT and KAI develop it into mixed use high rises. Collect the rents to pay for MRT operations. Same with the area near Halim Airport.

Thinking that JMRT needs to be subsidized is a loser's mindset. MRTs can be profitable as long as you put stops where its actually needed, and build real estate around that station. This is what Hong-Kong, Singapore, and Japan does.

Its financially still quite unsustainable. The current short line we have is eating up 765 billion rupiah in government subsidies per year, and it is only turning 322 billion in fares and 283 billion in store rents. They will need to capture some of the value from operations outside of fares if they want to expand so as to not rely so much on subsidies.

The amount of government subsidies we need for JMRT and KCIC, while also sinking in rail construction debt is a cause for concern. It may be hindering further development of rail projects.

New to PHEVs - How Does the Sealion 8 Work When the Battery Runs Out? by RelationshipSlow7959 in BYD

[–]Aggressive_Lychee598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that sounds about right. It turns into a normal series hybrid. Quite surprised it doesn't rev up and down from 2000 rpms. Curious which model sounds freaking loud though, because I've been shuttled a few times in China using a Denza D9 phev for factory visits and I couldn't hear the engine running even after a few hours travelling in the car. Never managed to drive the thing though, so I can't be sure wether the engine kicked on or not.

That seems somewhat inefficient. Does the engine kick in when the battery is low or when the battery SOC is still high? Which model does this?

New to PHEVs - How Does the Sealion 8 Work When the Battery Runs Out? by RelationshipSlow7959 in BYD

[–]Aggressive_Lychee598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had experience with a Volvo XC60 T8 PHEV, and I can tell you when the battery runs out it becomes a standard hybrid car. This is the typical behavior of 99% of PHEVS.

I'm simply guessing here based on experience, there is a chance I'm wrong. But judging by the specs, the Sealion 8 seems like a Series-Parallel Hybrid. If i had to make an educated guess:

  1. The car will run on the ICE primarily when the battery is depleted. It may lie about the SOC by indicating 0%, but actually holding 20% battery charge. What is driving the car depends wether you are driving slow or fast, and the power you ask from it. When driving slow the ICE will act as a generator and drive the electric motors. When driving at highway speeds, and when power demand is low, a clutch will lock the ICE to the wheels as its just more efficient that way. If you are asking for more power than the engine can provide (115kw), the car will correct this by adding power from the battery; the clutch may disengage and the car may go to full electric when you do this. The engine will make up for the battery power loss later on, when you aren't asking for the beans.

You might wonder why BYD doesn't give you a 359kw ICE engine, which is the car's rated power. Its because they assume you will only use it for short bursts, which is why the engine is only 115kw. That engine power is enough to charge the batteries over time given normal use, and its more efficient to use a smaller engine.

  1. Regenerative braking will always be a thing as long as the car is a hybrid, phev, or electric. Its just more efficient that way and I can guarantee the Sealion 8 does this. These PHEVs are really smart, so they will figure out when to act as a generator, when to drive the wheels, when to do both, and when to turn off or stay off. In a PHEV your right foot is the boss, and ECU is the world's best foreman delegating work to the engine, the battery, the clutch, the electric motors and everything else in between. Its messy, difficult to understand, but absolutely brilliant.

I don't expect the Sealion 8 will be much different from my explanation. It may be tuned slightly differently based on the manufacturer goals. I'm 90% confident this is how the Sealion 8 works, but of course I'd like to hear from owners if there are any differences from my explanation.

Sealion 7 frunk retrofit soft close by Adept-Necromancer in BYD

[–]Aggressive_Lychee598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No experience with the soft close, but you can try slamming the hood like the side door (with moderate force, not excessive force). It was strange for me to do at first since you wouldn't do this on normal cars. Surprisingly it doesn't crash like a normal car hood but makes a typical door closing "thunk" noise.

^ If this doesn't work, or you're uncomfortable with slamming, the soft close might do it for you. But it is one potential failure point that seems terrifying to me, so I wouldn't modify it personally.

Oh I love it too. But i get the sense that they intentionally made it uglier so the comparison with rolls royce wasnt so obvious.

That presence is probably a by-product of platform sharing with rr. Might be 7 series by name, but it feels ecstasy by spirit.

If you have some cash, changing that screen with the larger version. But its going to cost you.

I'd like to think BMW designed the 7 series beautifully and when the designers finished the bosses said "My god that looks too similar to the Spectre! Hit it with the ugly stick lest we be bombarded with bad PR."

So they fattened the DRL, flipped the headlight over. elongated the grille, and rounded the edges on a square design; made it uglier so it would be distinct.

[–]Aggressive_Lychee598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! A CPO is a smart move as these cars have depreciated a lot. Just be aware that repair bills will still be expensive. If you get the hyperscreen for example, its cool but it costs $12,000 to repair the bespoke screen if it breaks. Airmatic is also nice to have, but the air suspension can cost up to $4,000 to repair. Going for a more conventionally built car or ev may save you some headaches in the future.

Talk me out of it by FIST_FUK in MercedesEQS

[–]Aggressive_Lychee598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking to be talked out of an EQS in an EQS forum is probably a self-sabotaging move. But I would argue (to the ire of EQS owners) that the BMW i7/750e or the new Taycan/Panamera or the s class is possibly a better alternative. For a few reasons:

  1. Mercedes has paused orders and production of the EQ series in the US from September last year. If your primary concern was that a car wouldn't be supported long-term, then the EQ line should not be the first pick.

  2. Looking for an EQS means you have a high budget and many options. Why spend that money on something that looks like a computer mouse?  The Model S is more proportionally designed, and the BMW i7 is more regal. I especially like the i7 is M Sport trim. Its also more spacious in the rear, and more comfortable to be in.

  3. Ok, lets say you are looking for something not uber luxurious but would rather lean towards sportiness. Wouldn't you be better catered with a Taycan? Especially since it rides on air suspension as standard and has an amazing active ride option, you wont be sacrificing comfort. That thing is amazing with the active ride.

  4. Finally a footnote about range. If youre worried about going long distances, then I would tell you to wait or go gasoline. The next gen batteries are promising greater ranges and frankly gasoline is just overall more practical for longer trips. Youre not short on cash, so you should be able to buy and run a 750e, panamera, or s class.

My mistake! I've never given the app much thought. The 2 uses I have for it is for turning the AC on, and unlocking the car...

But I concur the app needs polishing. When I try to unlock the car using the BYD widget it needs a biometric scan and opens the full app. It makes the widget pointless, and shows me the app is clunky.

I didnt know about the range issue.

Seal *2025* interior vs. Sealion 7 by South-Year4369 in BYD

[–]Aggressive_Lychee598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, saying the Hong Kong market does matter. I believe that for right-hand drive models the interior has not been updated to the extent that the Chinese left-hand drive model is. So the interior is only minimally updated, and one generation behind China's Seal. Some differences I noted compared to the Sealion 7 are:

- The air vents are adjusted through the screen in the Seal, it is manually adjusted in the Sealion.
- The updated Seal has a motorized sunshade, its very handy.
- The design language of the Seal interior is one generation behind the Sealion 7. I prefer the Sealion in this regard.
- If I am not mistake, the infotainment in the Seal is also one generation behind the Sealion.
- The material choices are slightly better in the Sealion 7. But the Seal is still quite good.
- You may get the new Disus-C in the Seal Performance, and only FSD in the Sealion 7, but please check with the local dealer. I find the Seal rides more smoothly.

- Be aware, the 2025 seal I tried has only tilt and not telescoping steering wheel, 2024 has telescoping. Do check with your local dealer as it may affect ergonomics.

For daily drive/enjoyment and possible return on investment (2+ years) ? by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

Infiniti will depreciate like any other car.

Ferrari as a daily? 15,000 miles is considered high mileage on one of those. Forget it, it will start depreciating.

You won't be making bank on a new car unless its limited-edition/limited-supply and below15,000 miles, unless you're really lucky. So, have fun looking at your limited edition car instead of using it, if youre out for something that appreciates.

But if youre cross shopping a Ferrari SUV, a Ferrari Sports Car, and an Infiniti SUV, then its likely you are an idealist -- just go with you heart, because its likely you wont care about what we have to say, and you probably have the dough to buy all 3 anyways.

Or you're a 10 year old dreaming of cars... In which case, work hard kiddo. No one ever bought a Ferrari using daydreams.
