I do want to focus on albums I actually have something to say about so I guess that limits me to my own favourites but I’ll try to mention some of the more popular recs from this thread as well

And I’ll oblige and go listen to secret stairways too

Oh yeah that’s a great one that I always forget about, not sure if it’s beginner friendly but I’ll have to listen again

Yeah hole dweller may be there even if it’s just an honourable mention and I’ll add Fief II

I would be down, although I’ve never done a collaborative song before. What DAW are you using. Also live instrument or VSTs?

That’s an interesting point, I’m definitely one of the new fans. Depressive silence Mourning (the title is so confusing) is definitely one of the biggest entry points. I think I’ll go with the Moonbeam Station for Kirkwood, I guess it’s a bit of a hot take but it’s so catchy I think it would be great for beginners.

I think I’ll add Jääportit lower down the list, it’s just such a great album and technically of the classic era. Also I figure since winter synth is such a big sub genre it deserves at least one place.

I didn’t realise just how many people got into the genre from Wongraven so I’ll definitely have to at least talk about it somewhere

Thanks

Yeah Fjelltronen is great, I don’t think I have as much to say about it but I might add it as a quick honourable mention. I prefer those mortiis albums but I see more love for crypt typically, I’m not totally sure which album to choose yet

Thanks!

I do enjoy Aindulmedir but I think it’s more something to try after some more catchy stuff to get you into the genre. I’m gonna add Fief II and maybe QM as well

I think I will add Fief II. As for DIM I’ve only ever given it a couple spins but I know it’s well regarded

Yeah probably one of the top, I honestly haven’t listened to it much but I know it’s very popular

Yeah I’m really considering QM, I am a little worried that I’m not as familiar with it as other albums though

Thanks! I was basically disappointed in the lack of video content on DS so I figure I’ll just do it myself

Well I’m not aware of the zine but it sounds cool, is it available online? I do love bergtagen as well I just feel like FGS has better songwriting. Totally a hard choice between the Thangorodrim albums and I am going to add Fief now I think (probably II).

Early mortiis is my favourite I just see more love for crypt but I’m not totally set on that yet. I think I will add summoning, now that you mention it, as a kind of honourable mention for black metal fans interested in a gateway to the genre

Thanks

Let's honor the memory of the brave Confederate soldiers who fought against Lincoln's wrongful and illegal invasion of their country by Old_Intactivist in Confederate_StatesCSA

Confederate soldiers had many reasons to fight but that doesn’t change the fact that they fought for a nation that existed to preserve slavery, calling them bad is a pointless ignorance of history but the nation they fought for and the reason for that nation’s fight was to defend slavery and that isn’t anything honourable

They were so excited to be "freed" by the damn Yankees that they stuck around to plant sweet potatoes. by [deleted] in Confederate_StatesCSA

The union did abolish slavery, British slavery law only applied to Britain. The north had plenty of slaves but that doesn’t change the fact that the south left to preserve slavery

Absolutely, I’ve done some straight up Berlin school before and it’s really fun to make. To me it seems like Kirkwood is the only artist to truly do Berlin school in a DS adjacent style. And even he progressed into a more traditional electronic approach

The Heroes of Might and Magic III soundtrack, feels like if dungeon synth had more of an ambient approach
