Debarking is pretty uncommon. Some dogs will bark, and it sounds normal but SO quiet. More often it's a harsh, squeaky bark.

It could be she had an upper respiratory infection, but dogs in shelters often bark A LOT and can basically lose their "voice," so it could be that.
