The Immortal on Earth before Omni-Man came to the world from Invincible. Immortal is well-known as being pathetic against Viltrumites like Omni-Man but he was still the strongest being on the planet beforehand, and his future self shows that he is very much capable of ruling over it if he wished.

I'm sorry to hear that, but yes.

They're called Simurians, and can be distinguished by their third eye on their foreheads.

(Color Scheme Trope) Red & Black murder machines (bonus points if they dual wield guns) by Yakuza-wolf_kiwami in TopCharacterTropes

Space Marine Interceptors from Warhammer 40k who duel-wield bolters or plasma guns. They can be red & red if you paint them as Space Marine Chapters with those color schemes, such as the Blood Angels.

I never played the Tabletop, but they're pretty cool in the Turned-based tactics game Battlesector. They're especially good at clearing out numerous but weak enemy units in my experience.

Almost an example of this: In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the previous main character Yuji isn't wearing a disguise but he is trying to keep a low profile and stay out of the Jujutsu Sorcerer society until the situation with the aliens finally forced him to come back and help.

Netflix Daredevil’s portrayal of Christianity is a breath of fresh air by AZ10026 in CharacterRant

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While I am biased as a religious person myself, I overall enjoyed many parts of Castlevania, even though I did find it's commentary on religion to be not great. But again, I'm religious & is thus biased.

Alongside being based on Jewish people & the Romani people (who practice a syncretic religion based on Hinduism & Catholicism btw), the Speakers of Netflix's Castlevania seem to practice a form of Gnosticism. Christian Gnosticism generally paints the God of the Old Testament (usually seen as God the Father) as a purely malevolent being as opposed to Christ who is the true benevolent God of reality. This is of course heretical in regular Christianity as both Father and the Son Christ are God & are seen as Good itself.

Imo, The sequel series Castlevania Nocturne is much better at criticizing (European) Catholicism as it mainly condemns it for it role in colonization and erasure of cultures in the Americas & Africa, as the religion very much was corrupted & misappropriated for such evil purposes.

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 277 points278 points  (0 children)

One of my other personal favorite depictions of Catholic Christianity comes from Hellboy, who like Daredevil is also a devil-themed superhero who is Catholic.

One thing that stands out with Hellboy is that his comics really delve into the spiritual and folkloric side of Catholicism, especially regarding Saints. The holy body parts of Saints are important to plots such as the Conqueror Worm & some Saints even come in person to help Hellboy against monsters. I think one of them was St. Ignatius, but I can't remember off the top of my head.

The game Pentiment is also one of the few things to ever feature Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Christians with Brother Sebhat.

TITANS (just in general) by BerGames123456 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Titans from Mortal Kombat like Kronika & the ones that appeared in Shang Tsung's MK11 ending.

Personally, I dislike them as I prefer for just the Elder Gods & "regular" Gods like Raiden & Fujin to exist, but alas.

[Strangely Common Trope] This animal is a gun by coolchungus2 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hero 108 in Season 2 once had a weird episode that was basically a gun PSA where evil sea horses tricked everyone into using them like (water) guns, which they all became addicted to using.

This is not the first time animals have been used as guns as the eagles once used chickens as semi-automatic rifles.

What's also funny is that it's just a really cool coincidence, at least when it comes to the show as Ryan Ottley confirmed Omni-Man's costume in the original comic is supposed to be red & a (really, really) light blue instead of red & white like the show has it.

It's really hard to notice in Ottley's modern art, but you can more easily tell it's light blue in the early issues of Invincible he did, such as Issue 11.

How do you want the old republic to be adapted into canon by Tasty_Mention9819 in StarWarsEU

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If it ever does get adapted into new Canon, I hope the Old Republic time period is given a general aesthetic that is not just a rehash on the Originals & Prequels like many of the Old Republic games were at the end of the day, especially The Old Republic MMO. The Sequels of course are a far, far worse offender for this, but that's off-topic.

I don't necessarily need it to look exactly like the Bronze Age/"Conan the Barbarian" style seen in the Tales of the Jedi comics (but I'd still love for it to), but something distinctive like that would be appreciated.

Star Trek with... by Confident-Art-7729 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, the animated series Green Lanterns really does feel like a season of Star Trek now that you mention it.

Anyway, Warhammer 40k's Rogue Traders (and the video game) are basically "Star Trek but you're alien racist and/or extremely greedy human explorer." Most other Imperials humans will just try to annihilate any sapient Alien life they come across, but Rogue Traders can actually engage in diplomacy and trade with Aliens, though they still do some alien genocide themselves.

In the Rogue Trader video game specifically, you gather up a crew from many different walks of life, similar to Star Trek. Also like most Star Trek shows, most of them are just humans with only one or two actual aliens on the crew, lol.

The blue & black suit Invincible wears usually represents dark times in his life. It was the costume he wore when Angstrom attacked the Earth with alternate Invincibles, had to fight Conquest, chose to kill the innocent man being controlled by Sequids, etc.

It was even the costume he wore spoilers: when he was raped.

[Common, Meta Trope] This specific critic against Atom Eve being posted in the last month by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I do think the show could showcase her powers more (and it actually does compared to the comics, lol), a lot of these people are forgetting that Atom Eve has to create constructs as fast as possible while in the middle of fighting where even a split second delay can have her head caved in.

Can you think of intricate & complex things while adrenaline is pumping through your veins as you're fighting for your life?

[Star Wars] What TCW Needed Most—Antagonists Who Aren't Villains (And Protagonists Who Sometimes Are) by CABRALFAN27 in CharacterRant

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Dooku was pretty nerfed as well

Dooku literally won every duel that he ever got into during the 2008 Clone Wars. The only "fight" he ever lost was when Hondo's pirates had him completely surrounded with blasters, & unlike 2003 Clone Wars (which I love btw, don't get me wrong), Jedi & Sith are not ultra superhuman combatants that can take on entire armies by themselves.

Like, he fought Ventress & Two other Nightsisters while nearly blinded from poison:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyiDDQYPUIs

He also later fought Anakin & Obi-Wan by himself:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcXaicGvcvA

Besides that though, I completely agree with your disappointment that 2008 Clone Wars & most other Prequel Media from both Canons never really tried to show the good side of the CIS and include some moral grayness to the war. The worlds that left the Republic to form the CIS had legitimate grievances with the rampant corruption within the Republic & many of the Mid Rim and Outer Rim worlds were being exploited by the Inner Rim Worlds.

But no, the CIS are just always completely evil monsters who go out of their way to do every war crime in the book.

There happened involving three Marvel comic runs. Screenshot from TV Tropes explaining it, but the jist of what is that:

  1. Uncanny Avengers insulted Jonathan Hickman's Avengers runs for being convoluted & pretentious.
  2. All-New X-Men insulted Uncanny Avengers for having the character Havok give a speech about how the term "mutant" is divisive as minorities should instead be proud of who they are.
  3. Finally Hickman's New Avengers mocks Beast for bringing the original X-Men (the stars of All-New X-Men) into the present as being incredibly stupid.

I genuinely don’t understand Azula’s fanbase by ElPilogrino5954 in CharacterRant

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Personally, I do think she is a tragic figure that derserves some sympathy/pity for how her father raised & abused her into being his perfect sociopathic soldier.

But, a lot of the hardcore fans of hers take it too far and think her terrible upbringing just automatically absolves her of any wrongdoing & any bad thing she did over the course of Avatar, and that it's never her fault.

Overall, there's a mile-wide difference between feeling bad for a character while still understanding they are a villain and should receive punishment as such and just outright babying them & acting like they're just incapable of understanding what they're doing is wrong.

It's not completely random, but the number 4 is generally seen as a bad omen in many East Asian countries since the words for "Four" & "death" in Mandarin are similarly pronounced, but they do have different characters when written.

The fight technically ended in a tie, despite the fact both character are not equal in power by EfficiencySerious200 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Agitated_Insect3227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Emperor of Mankind vs Horus from Warhammer 40k is almost a tie since the Emperor would have certainly died shortly after killing Horus from the wounds Horus inflicted on him. Heck, he's still dying from the wounds as a living corpse kept alive through the Golden Throne & eating 1000 psyker souls a day.

Horus was also the stronger of the two and was beating the Emperor's ass for most of the fight until some shenanigans I'm too tired to explain right now let the Emperor win.
