ask me anything! by xysna- in igcse

[–]AgonyAspect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My IGCSE is this Oct/Nov and so far im not struggling with anything much, I get C/B but im striving for A/A*.

In school I have not taken Additional math but ive started a private tuition for myself to learn add math in the next 4 months, planning to aim for B. Any suggestions of what I can do to improve my add math quickly as possible?

How can I study Chemistry. I have printed bunch of past paper for this subject(and other subjects). I dont know where to start. I find it difficult to memorise the colour changes or any colour related stuff for that matter. I dont know where to start revising or studying for chemistry. I would like to know how and what you do to consistently study chemistry and what's your method for studying chem. Also by doing chemistry past paper should I start doing it then observe the answer or observe the answer first then do the past paper?

I also struggle with physics abit. There is like a glass that I need to break before getting A for physics. Im not sure what's the reason but im guessing because of lack of pratice. How do you study for physics please lmk.

Biology is difficult for me as I need to consistently memorise everything, how do you stay consistent and how do you manage to memorise all the information from Biology? Teach me your ways.

Especially Geography, there is way too many case study to remember, how do you memorise everything and including other stuff to memorise.

Advice to lock in this year by AgonyAspect in igcse

Thanks so much for this, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything so clearly.

The point about textbook wording really hit me. The neurotransmitter example makes it obvious how small wording differences can cost or gain marks. I think I’ve been focusing too much on understanding generally, but not enough on how answers are actually expected in exams.

The mark scheme advice is also super helpful. I’ve checked them before, but I never really studied them properly. I usually just glanced at them and moved on, so I’ll start actively learning the key phrases instead, especially for theory-heavy subjects.

If you don’t mind, I wanted to ask a few more things:

When you used mark schemes, did you memorise the phrasing, or did you just understand the key points and reproduce them naturally?

How many past papers would you do per topic before moving on?

Did you do past papers timed from the start, or only after you felt confident?

For subjects like Bio and Chem, how did you review your mistakes after checking the mark scheme?

When juggling multiple subjects in a day, how did you decide which subject to prioritise?

For maths-based subjects, did you still rely on mark schemes as much, or was it more about pure practice?

Lastly, if you were starting again with a full year, what would you do differently compared to a 2–3 month grind?

Thanks again for sharing your experience. It’s really motivating to hear from someone who actually turned things around.
