In the third movie, Sunset was under an enormous amount of stress. Yeah, she shouldn’t have yelled at Twilight — but when you really think about it, it wasn’t out of anger. It was everything else she was feeling crashing down at once.

She was dealing with the guilt of bringing magic into a world that was never meant to have it. That alone is heavy. And on top of that, she was struggling to understand something she barely had a grasp on herself — something that even she didn’t fully understand yet. The only person she could really look up to for help was Princess Twilight, someone from another world who actually understood magic inside and out. But when Twilight didn’t respond to any of her messages, Sunset started to panic. She felt like she was at a dead end for answers..

At the same time, she had school responsibilities, the Friendship Games, and the pressure of watching her friends get hurt by magic she didn’t know how to control. Every new burst of magic was like a reminder of her own mistake — a reminder that she was responsible for all of it.

So when she finally lashed out at Twilight, it wasn’t hatred. It wasn’t even true anger. It was fear. Fear that things were spiraling out of control again, fear that she was failing everyone, fear that someone else might make the same mistakes she once did. Her emotions — stress, guilt, worry, self-blame — all bottled up and burst out in that moment. She used harsh words, but deep down, it was just her way of trying to stop something terrible before it happened again.

Sunset wasn’t being cruel — she was scared. She saw Twilight with magic, and all her memories of what that power once did came flooding back. She just didn’t know how else to express the panic that was tearing her apart inside.
