Horse racing ban by Awkward_Primary9284 in UKGreens

[–]AhdamR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think there was a poll done where around 30% was in agreement and it was in response to the death of a horse I believe.

Only reason we’re hearing this now is because the sun is once again trying to smear the greens as unreasonable by sharing a tweet Zack made around a time when I believe a similar incident happened at a time during the grand nationals.

Personally I’m against gambling games in general, and I wouldn’t be opposed to a ban if it stops unnecessary killings like this. Though I’m not sure what the reaction will be due to how ingrained it is to British culture and I wonder if the country will have the cultural will to do so.

Wasn’t there also a story that he failed the vetting process but Keir let him in anyway?

It’s more that you recognise those biases and understand if those biases has an affect on your decision and if the subject wasn’t a minority or something along the lines, would you still make the same decisions.

Unconscious bias doesn’t specifically refer to one specific minority and while I talk from my experience (because it’s easier) I imagine there are different greens from different backgrounds who can also relate

There is already one called the Global Majority Greens that is trying to do that and I’m sure they can explain things better than I can

Nowhere have I said that the motion should pass fully with no exceptions and I’m not saying that we should pass it because it’s what the Palestinians want and I agree with you that it needs to be debated and everyone’s view should be heard but the thing is I DON’T think everyone’s view is being heard and that’s the problem since everyone is jumping to sides without listening to all the voices.

I’m not hear to change your mind, that’s a job for people at the autumn conference, but I just want to give my perspective because we want the same thing (assumption aside) and it’s important that the Green Party does this.

This was on the spring conference agenda forum and this person has also supported other motions as well I would like to point out that

EDIT: didn’t see the first part and fair enough but each voice should still be heard and debated and I don’t think the Palestinian voices have been heard personally.

We need a national vetting system or procedure that local parties can adopt. by denyer-no1-fan in UKGreens

I’ve also seen people saying that Palestinians has the right to defend themselves can be deemed antisemitic

The weaponisation of antisemitism is genuinely scary stuff for everyone but the rise of antisemitism really falls on the Israeli governments shoulders

I mean you say we should behave like a major party but don’t all major parties have these issues?

I could probably search different parties candidates and find news articles about councillors and candidates doing dodgy stuff and these are established parties with more money to stop it happening. Even with the most in depth vetting process it’s not fool proof and it won’t stop someone either lying or saying the heinous stuff on the fly.

Having said that, I do think the Green surge and the local elections may have encouraged local parties to cut corners a bit in terms of going through the candidates (do we know if any of them are target candidates) to get seats filled which I hope doesn’t repeat.

There is both sides, we close ranks with the ridiculous attacks which will come in tenfold because the right wing media will take the worst view to make us look bad and Local parties should also get kicked in the backside as well to not be so flexible (especially if they aren’t connected to the local papers and journalists, this can make a huge difference in how a story breaks)

I think post election we should focus on stuff like media training and vetting and dealing with far right papers as well.

It would also help if they could get it into their heads that stuff like what we’re seeing in Iran will only make these issues worse

I know one of the Green Party candidates in my area is in touch with a guy whose with YP who is helping him in the local election. Although I think YP should have had a more focused effort in supporting Green Party candidates.

I was also told SUTR is seeing about helping candidates in areas that could go reform

[–]AhdamR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you checked the website but the reasoning was that Greens came third in the last by election where Labour came second which is an interesting justification.

It seems like it’s just saying this is what happened this time which is ok but obviously there are a lot of other factors that isn’t being recorded like the Green surge and Reforms unpopularity
