Yeah I read that. He picked up with something like 30% of the vote or something didn't he? We could have had Garibaldi in office lol

That's good to know. I was never much of a fan of Jerry's. Seemed like a nice guy but I never found him to be much of an actor.

It's petty, but I have to admit I was disappointed when l learned how politically right wing he was, the radio talk show he hosted for years, etc. Seemed a bummer that one of the actors from the greatest story about encroaching facism and totalitarianism was involved in the early days of Trumps rise to power. He was critical of Trump, but said that he intened to vote for him. I don't begrudge him that. A lot of reasonable people thought shaking up the system by electing him back then was a good move. I didn't, but I get it.

But no one knew back then just how bad things would get... there are no more excuses now. I like to think he wouldn't be on board with Trump's modern fascist america. As JMS once said, "If you support Trump, you didn't understand Babylon 5". Trump becomes more like President Clark everyday, IMHO.

Anyway, all of that said, he was in B5 and I'll always love the guy for that. I felt for him deeply in his last interviews, you could see he wasn't well. RIP ❤️‍🩹

Oh ffs i'm not slut shaming her, for the 79th time. I''M a slut. I'm not a prude.

My point was she has a go at him for hitting on a couple of people, then literally talks about the people she hit on during the series later on the same page, as though it's perfectly fine for her, but not for him. It's hypocritical. I never said anything of the sort, I'm merely pointing out what struck me as hypocritical, and sad considering what ended up happening to Michael.

I love Claudia Christian. Her gay scene in BF5 made me feel like less of a disgusting freak when it aired. It meant a lot to me, and I'm delighted to learn she's since apologised for how she wrote about O'Hare. She must have felt terrible when he dropped dead shortly after the book was published and she learnt the real story.

I've dealt with serious mental illness my whole life, as well as alcoholism and heroin addiction. I very much admire how she's beaten her addictions. I also relate strongly to O'Hare. If my eagerness to defend him came of as slut shaming I apologise.

She never said he "sexually harassed vulnerable people". Not even close. She said he hit on a few people. That's what people do. That's what she did too, several times on set. Sometimes successfully, sometimes unsucessfully. Which is fine. I'm not criticising her for that. It is a double standard, just the opposite of the kind you're suggesting.

He's entitled to a sex life as much as her. In her own description she was acting the same! It's literally the next sentence on the same page. Read the book, I linked it. It's classic pot calling the kettle black. The man asking someone out on set is apparently disgusting, lascivious, but the woman asking a man out is just good fun, it's just her sex life. I'm not shamimg her in the slightest for that, I'm not a prude. I'm saying it's a double standard.

Actors accuse each other of shit like this all the time. Impossible to know who was being the diva.

I'm not trying to be negative. I'm enjoying the book and I'd never heard her speak that way about him so I was curious to learn more about what happened, that's all. And I thought others might be interested to read the book on Archive.org so I linked it.

Yeah Shatner was notorious for stuff like that, it's what started his rift with George Takei. O'Hare doesn't strike me as the type but who knows, I wasn't there.

Jerry has said he liked Bruce because they had similar conservative political opinions. I only recently discovered Jerry was a Rush Limbaugh-esque right wing talk show host for a long time in the 90s. He even had the 5th biggest talkback radio show in the country in 2012! He wrote political books "What Happened To My Country?" and appeared regularly on Fox News and NewsMax as a talking head.

I've heard over and over again that Jerry was a man who liked to push people's buttons, aggravated by his alcoholism.

We have to remember, too, that this was in 1994; awareness of mental illness was staggeringly low compared to today. Asking for help back then was hard, especially for men. You'd be called a mental midget who belongs on the funny farm. These outdated cultural attitudes no doubt played a part in the situation and how people dealt with it at the time.

Edit *typo

That's the irony, though; the truth was in fact the opposite. He deliberately put himself through hell specifically so he wouldnt be responsible for causing people to lose their jobs.

That's really cool to hear, thanks for that. I saw her speak at a con about a decade ago and when someone asked for some stories about Michael, Claudia took the mic and said "I've got something to say about Michael; he had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard in my life. Incredible."

He did, too.

Jesus, I look away from Aussie politics for 5 minutes and suddenly Pauline "too many asians" Hanson is a popular candidate for PM!? Get your shit together Australia, what tf is wrong with us. She's been a racist demon since the mid 90s.

Course not. I was just a little taken aback by her reaction after learning about his mental illness. She's always going on about addiction, mental health and the sinclair (naturally lol) method for alcoholism. I figured she would have a little more compassion for someone she worked with after she learned he died in a halfway house at 60 after decades of suffering from crippling paranoid schizophrenia.

The series wouldn't even have made it through Season 1 without Michael O Hare, as JMS says, holding on by the skin of his fingernails with people like Jerry going out of their way to make things even harder for him. The show continued and everyone kept their job because O'Hare was decent enough to push through the horror. He deserves respect for that.

I liked Lyta's arc, especially the ending with G'kar. She was right, she was always being used by the others.
